Lorraine Kelly returned to her ITV Daytime show today (May 4), after eight weeks off air.

Earlier this year, ITV cuts meant the star saw her show reduced in time from an hour to just 30 minutes. Lorraine is also now only on air for 30 weeks of the year.

Today, she returned, and addressed her long absence in a chat with guest Alison Hammond.

“Good morning to you and a very happy bank holiday,” said Lorraine, before introducing Alison.

“Do you know what, can we just take a moment, that you’re back. We’re so happy to see you,” Alison declared. “Oh I’m really glad, I’m really glad to be back,” said the Scottish presenter.

“I feel like normal service has resumed. Reality has resumed. Lorraine is back,” Alison continued, before Lorraine spoke about her trip to Thailand during her ITV hiatus.

Viewers ‘switch off’

Sadly, not everyone was as happy as Alison to have the Scottish presenter back on their screens.

Over on the hashtag, viewers declared that they were left reaching for the remote having seen the star back on their screens.

“It was lovely not having this drivel on my screen for a while. Switch off,” said one viewer. “And that’s enough,” agreed another.

A third commented: “Lorraine is back and straight away showing why they only let her loose for half the year now.”

Others were surprised that the star was on air on a bank holiday Monday. Historically, she only worked during term time, and had bank holidays off.

“Lorraine Kelly working on a bank holiday? Is it time and a half or something?” one posted. “Lorraine is on and she’s in the studio?!” said another bemused viewer.
