Steven looks back on the whole situation with regretMAFS Australia aired some tense scenes tonight, as Steven and Rachel split for good – but what has he had to say about this since?
In dramatic scenes, Steven and Rachel were forced to confront their relationship issues head on. But unfortunately for fans, things didn’t go in a very positive direction.
While Steven and Rachel chose each other at Final Vows, it didn’t take long before their relationship crumbled in the real world. But Steven now blames someone else entirely for them never giving it a second go.

What happened between Steven and Rachel?
After a beautiful vow ceremony, everyone thought Steven and Rachel were finally getting their happily ever after. However, during the Reunion Dinner Party episode, Rachel confirmed the pair had actually split.
She revealed that Steven couldn’t prioritise their relationship, and her biggest fear of him just moving back to his old life, came true.
However, it was clear there were still a lot of feelings between them. And so during the Dinner Party, they had an emotional conversation, which ultimately led to Steven putting his ring back on.
This happiness didn’t last long. The experts had one final chance to speak to the couples. And when Steven and Rachel sat on the sofa, their relationship hit the end of the road.
Throughout the whole conversation, Steven wasn’t giving definitive answers, and it was evident he was afraid to hurt Rachel. So, expert John Aiken gave him one yes or no question to answer – does he want to be with Rachel.

After some back-and-forth, and the others encouraging him to “stop leading her on”, Steven revealed: “I’m going to say it loud and clear. I’m going to put a bullet in it and just say no.”

What has Steven said about their split since MAFS Australia?
However, following the experiment, Steven actually revealed he felt “pressured” into making that decision. And in hindsight, he wishes he had’ve stood up to John in that moment.
Speaking to TikTok’s Villain Edit Podcast, Steven admitted he regrets how that whole situation went down.
He explained: “They put a gun to my head, it felt like. Because, it’s not that simple. I went down to Melbourne to see Rachel, and we mutually said this isn’t going to work. But we didn’t want to break up.
“I just felt like I [bleep]ed it all up because of my busy life in Sydney. I’ve got a business that I closed, I’m trying to find a place to live again. I put it all on hold. And I’ve got finances. I was also battling a health problem at the same time.”
Steven continued: “I just couldn’t give that attention right now, she’s 900km away. John was sitting there asking if I wanted to be in the relationship. I did, but I had these things to work on myself.”
He then took the opportunity to hit out at John for pushing him into the answer he gave.
“In the end, I got in such a corner, and said the dumbest thing. I should’ve argued and said to John, ‘Nah, [bleep] you’. If I had my time back, I probably would’ve said that. But I was so pressured with everyone there. I just looked like a bit of a [bleep].”
So, while Steven and Rachel weren’t able to make their relationship work, it seems the groom has been doing on a lot of reflecting after the experiment.
