Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is almost here, but there’s one star from the show you shouldn’t expect to see: Annabelle Wallis.

The new Netflix movie is an official continuation of the story, penned by the show’s creator, Steven Knight.

It takes place six years after the events of series 6, with Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) returning to Birmingham amid the chaos of the Second World War and facing off against his son, Duke (Barry Keoghan), the new, volatile leader of the Peaky Blinders.

Several stars from the show have reprised their roles, like Sophie Rundle as Ada and Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg. However, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Annabelle Wallis. So, here’s a breakdown of what she’s up to now (and a reminder of what happened to her character in Peaky Blinders).

***Warning: spoilers for Peaky Blinders ahead***

Who did Annabelle Wallis play in Peaky Blinders?

Annabelle Wallis played Grace Burgess – and, later, Grace Shelby, Tommy’s first wife in Peaky Blinders.

She was introduced as an undercover operative, gathering intel on the Shelby family for Inspector Campbell (Sam Neill). At the end of series 1, both Polly and Tommy realised that Grace had betrayed them, and even more shockingly, the finale ended with Campbell holding her at gunpoint after she turned down his proposal.

In series 2, it’s revealed that she not only survived, but she shot Campbell in the leg and fled to the US. By the end of the second series, Grace returned and ended up pregnant with Tommy’s child.

Series 3 opened with a time skip, with Grace giving birth to a son and the couple preparing to get married. However, things took a tragic turn.

How did Grace die?

Grace was shot and killed. However, she wasn’t the target: the bullet was meant for Tommy, whose death had been ordered by Italian mob boss Vicente Changretta.

She died in Tommy’s arms, and her death haunted him all the way to the end of series 6.

What other movies and TV shows has Annabelle Wallis been in?

Annabelle Wallis has enjoyed a busy career since the late 2000s – but there are notable roles in her filmography.

For example, she played Jane Seymour in The Tudors and starred alongside Margot Robbie and Christina Ricci in Pan Am. Movie-wise, she appeared in Tom Cruise’s infamous Mummy reboot, Tag, and Chris Pratt’s Mercy.

If you consider yourself a horror fan and you don’t recognise her, you need to educate yourself. She played Maddie in 2021’s Malignant, one of the wildest films of the 2020s so far and a near-immediate cult classic. (Trust us, you’ll never predict where it’s going.)

According to Wallis, ideas for a sequel were “swirling around” following the film’s rave reception.

“We were very, very flattered by the reception and I think taken aback by the reception. So yeah, there’s lots of conversations happening,” she told Screen Rant. There haven’t been other updates, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Her famous family members, including a Harry Potter legend

While Annabelle Wallis’ mum and dad aren’t famous, her wider family definitely is.

Her great uncle on her mother’s side was Richard Harris, the award-winning actor who appeared in Camelot, Unforgiven, and Gladiator.

He was the first actor to bring Dumbledore to life in live-action, portraying Harry Potter’s iconic headmaster in The Philosopher’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets. He died in 2002, aged 72.

That also means she’s related to Jared Harris (Chernobyl, Mad Men) and the extended Harris family.

On her dad’s side, she’s related to Marie Lloyd, an English singer whose songs Wallis actually sings in Peaky Blinders.

Annabelle Wallis’ relationship history explained

Annabelle Wallis has dated some extraordinarily famous people. Between 2010 and 2014, she was in a relationship with Burberry model James Rousseau.

It’s unclear why they split up, but a year later, Wallis entered into a relationship with Coldplay’s Chris Martin (not long after he and Gwyneth Paltrow announced their separation). They dated for two years, with Wallis even provided backing vocals for ‘Up&Up’.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald (via the Mail Online), she explained why she prefers to keep her personal life private, where possible.

“It becomes hard when you know about someone’s personal life – it’s just distracting. It’s a whole other job in itself if you go down that road,” Wallis said.

“I love the person I love, but it means so much to me that I like to keep it safe. I have nothing to hide.

“It’s just that when you have people in your life that you care about, you get very protective of them, and it’s not about you any more, it’s about other people, and the ones you love are the ones you protect like a lioness.”

They split in 2017. There are multiple reports from alleged sources about why they broke up, but it appears they just drifted apart and remained good friends.

Annabelle Wallis dated Chris Pine

In 2018, Wallis started dating Chris Pine. Whether it’s Star Trek, Wonder Woman, or The Princess Diaries 2, he’s one of the most recognisable working actors today.

The pair had been snapped on holiday together, but they never appeared on a red carpet as a couple. Of course, a big chunk of their relationship coincided with the pandemic, and it’s reported that they self-isolated together. Their split was announced in 2022; again, there’s been nothing to suggest it wasn’t amicable.

Who is she dating now?

Now, Wallis is in a relationship with Sebastian Stan. The Oscar-nominated star is known for his roles in A Different Man, The Apprentice (in which he played Donald Trump), and playing Bucky in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

They keep a low profile, but they have appeared at events together (including the Golden Globes, where Stan told the audience he loved her in his acceptance speech).

While Stan and Wallis aren’t engaged or married, TMZ has reported that they’re expecting their first child together.

Is Annabelle Wallis in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man?

While strictly unconfirmed, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Annabelle Wallis reprise her role as Grace in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

No, it’s not just because her character is dead. After all, Tommy saw Grace in his head long after her death, allowing for small, poignant cameos in later episodes.

What is Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man about?

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man takes place six years after the events of series 6.

According to Netflix, Tommy Shelby will be "driven back from a self-imposed exile" in the chaos of the Second World War.

As he returns to Birmingham, he'll "face his most destructive reckoning yet".

"With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders," the synopsis adds.

This will also involve a reunion with his son: Duke (played by Barry Keoghan), who's become the divisive, violent leader of the Peaky Blinders.

However, given the other events in the series (like Polly Gray and Ruby Shelby’s death), Grace could be an unnecessary callback. She could get a mention, but don’t expect to see her.

Wallis hasn’t been silent about the film, either. She recently reposted a clip of Tommy Shelby’s best moments on Instagram.

“Thank you to the wonderful fans for choosing our scene as the ‘best ever’ of Peaky Blinders… ENJOY THE FILM,” she wrote.
