The future is looking bleak for CharityEmmerdale has aired a devastating twist for Charity Dingle as Sarah Sugden told a shocking lie to the police after discovering the truth about baby Leyla.
It’s been a huge few weeks for Emmerdale as they delivered shock after shock. But something nobody saw coming was Charity revealing the truth about Leyla to Sarah.
Naturally, Sarah was absolutely shocked and heartbroken at the news she wasn’t really Leyla’s mum. But in tonight’s episode (September 9) she decided she was out for revenge. And took a very extreme approach.
Warning – spoilers ahead. The episode hasn’t yet aired on TV, but is available to watch on ITVX and YouTube.

Sarah discovered the truth in Emmerdale
Just a few days ago, Sarah thought Charity going to prison for her was the worst thing in the world. So much so, that she was willing to take full responsibility for killing Dr Todd.
But that all very quickly changed when Charity blurted out the truth about baby Leyla. That she wasn’t Sarah’s daughter.
Initially, Sarah couldn’t fully comprehend what her nan was telling her. But as Charity revealed the entire truth, Sarah’s world came crashing down. And things got even worse when she realised Chas, Mack and Ross were all in on the truth.
Tonight, she decided that she was down with them all and while she couldn’t bring herself to tell Jacob the truth, she no longer considered them family.

Charity charged with murder after Sarah’s lie
That’s when Sarah decided to ramp things up another notch. She rocked up to the station, asking to change her statement about Dr Todd’s death. And while once upon a time she wanted to change it to help Charity – that was no longer the case.
Charity was brought back down and told that Sarah’s statement had changed. Instead of accidentally killing Todd, Sarah told the police that her nan murdered her rapist in cold blood – then forced her to lie to the police about it.
Obviously, Charity was horrified at what Sarah told them, and tried to make them see that it wasn’t true. But with the new statement and the conflicting evidence, she had no hope.
In the end, Charity was charged with murder – and it was all down to her own granddaughter’s revenge. Is there any way back from this? Or will Charity go down for something she didn’t do?
