Strictly Come Dancing fans ask 'is Kai Widdrington cursed?': All his accident prone partners from Vicky Pattison to AJ Odudu
Delta Goodrem is out this week due to injuryStrictly Come Dancing‘s Delta Goodrem is the latest celebrity partner of Kai Widdrington to be crocked with an injury after breaking one of her ribs.
The Australian singer has been given a ‘Bye’ for this Saturday’s live show, meaning she can progress straight to Week 5 if medics deem her fit enough.
But it appears dancing with Kai, as wonderful as it is, could leave any future partners quaking in their boots.
Strictly fans are worried that Kai keeps ending up with accident prone partners which, we must stress, is just bad luck!
Writing on Reddit, one fan asked: “Is Kai cursed or something when it comes to having good partners, wishing Delta a speedy recovery!”
Another joked: “The Kai effect! Hope she recovers well!”
Vicky Pattison: Chipped tooth
Vicky Pattison was paired with Kai in last year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing. But during a rehearsal in October 2025, disaster struck.
Vicky chipped her tooth while practising a “spicy” lift with the professional dancer.
The former Geordie Shore star said at the time: “Just been one of those weeks lads…I’ll at the start of the week, chipped me tooth in a spicy lift with Kai and now Max [my dog] has popped me nose and cut it in his sheer excitement to see me…”
Kaye Adams: Bruised ribs
Loose Women star Kaye Adams suffered a similar fate to Delta Goodrem in 2022. Kaye ended up bruising her rips on Kai’s abs while in the rehearsal room.
Kaye said at the time: “You know how you bump your elbow on the end of a table? Well, I bumped my rib on Kai’s rock-solid abs.”
The star also shared with her Loose Women pal Nadia Sawalha: “Just taping up my ribs. It’s not a plaster, it’s because there’s a big bruise on my ribs. I’ve been too energetic getting thrown around.”
AJ Odudu: Torn ankle ligament
Poor AJ Odudu’s Strictly Come Dancing dream was left in tatters in 2021. The TV presenter had made it all the way to the final. But she had to pull out with just hours to go.
AJ tore a ligament in her ankle as she rehearsed with Kai. It left her on crutches for weeks, meaning she also couldn’t take part in the Strictly Live Tour.
AJ explained at the time: “The pain was so acute that I projectile vomited and currently I can’t put any weight on my right foot without agonising discomfort.”
Angela Rippon: Asthma attack
Angela Rippon was partnered with Kai on the 2023 series of Strictly. She sailed through the series with no issues, but disaster struck on the Live Tour.
The pair were due to go on stage in Liverpool when Angela suffered a medical emergency. The TV presenter had been battling a chest infection which then triggered an asthma attack.
Once back on her feet, Angela said: “Wednesday evening, when I was about to go on and dance the cha-cha-cha, I’m afraid the infection triggered a serious asthma attack and when I started to dance, I stopped breathing basically.
“Which was all a bit scary, not just for me, but for Kai as well because I was a bit like a rag doll on the dance floor – sorry Liverpool.”
