What happened on The Chase last night?

Last night saw four new contestants take on The Chaser, intending to win a big money prize.

They were Kevin, Sophia, David, and Lorna. Kevin was up first. He got off to a good start, picking up £6,000 in the cash builder, and kept up his good fortune by evading Chaser Paul Sinha to book a slot in the final round.

Next up was Sophia. She did pretty well in the cash builder too, racking up £4,000. Unfortunately, she couldn’t keep out of the Sinnerman’s grasp.

David was third up to the plate. Similarly, he did well in the cash builder, answering seven questions correctly to bag £7,000. He then took a big risk by opting to go for the Sinnerman’s high offer of £60,000 – and managed to take it into the final with him!

Lorna was up last and bagged £6,000 in the cash builder. She too bagged a slot in the final.

However, the wheels fell off in the final round.

Playing for £72,000, the team answered several questions incorrectly in the final chase. David was the main culprit, answering a whopping nine questions incorrectly during the two minutes Bradley Walsh asked them. Many of his incorrect answers appeared to be guesses.

The team only managed to put 16 steps between themselves and Paul Sinha, with Bradley warning them that they were “three short”.

It turns out that Bradley was right, with Paul catching up to the team with 20 seconds remaining, even though they executed two pushbacks successfully.

“We needed Sophia. Full house,” Bradley said. “Yeah, we did,” David said.

David slammed by fans

Fans were not happy with David following the Final Chase, with many accusing him of ruining the team’s chances by guessing and getting answers wrong.

The way David absolutely enraged me in the final round of #thechase tonight [angry emoji] how did one of them not just say stop!!! I was ready to punch him through the TV,” one fan fumed.

“Team would have scored more if David had just kept quiet,” another grumbled.

“I think David’s press and guess tactic cost them,” a third remarked. Another viewer then added: “You messed that up, David, you silly [bleep]!”

“David just cost them the money! He dived in when he didn’t know the answer, not giving the other two a chance. You could see Kevin pressing the button,” a fifth tweeted.

Not everyone was out to slam David, though. Some praised him for going for the high offer. “#TheChase if David didn’t jump in so quickly with wrong answers, perhaps they may have won it. Hats off to David, though, for going high,” one said.

“Don’t forget David won the most money too and lost it too, nothing ventured nothing gained,” another said.
