Tom Rhys Harries is a man on the rise, with two big roles coming up this month, and a stunning girlfriend to come home to – and this is all in his second language (his first is Welsh).

Tom is also going toe to toe with award-winning thesp David Harewood (OBE no less) in Channel 4 drama Pierre. He plays morally ambiguous policeman Mark Tanner, who may or may not be a corrupt and racist officer. No spoilers here, you’ll have to tune in to find out.

Having done the graft since a teenager, Tom deserves every bit of success. So there’s everything you need to know about Tom Rhys Harries’ career, his famous ex, and current girlfriend.

Tom Rhys Harries plays PC Mark Tanner in Pierre

Actor Tom Rhys Harries plays a crucial role in the new Channel 4 crime drama Pierre. The six-part series introduces West London duty solicitor Pierre Jeffreys who represents charismatic, young black man Michael.

Michael believes he’s been subjected to police harassment, and Pierre agrees to help him build a case. But when Michael is killed, allegedly in a “gang-related” stabbing, Pierre suspects the worst.

The series follows Pierre’s attempt to find the truth behind the death of his client Michael. While Michael’s death is framed by the police as either a drug-deal gone wrong or inter-gang warfare, those closest to Michael know differently.

Pierre investigates and is confronted with a culture of bigotry within the police force. Tom Rhys Harries portrays PC Mark Tanner in the cast of Pierre. When we meet him, it’s unclear whether he’s one of the good guys – or a corrupt bully.

Tom Rhys Harries’ TV and film career

The actor made his first appearance on TV in 2011, when he was just 19 years old. He portrayed Evan in the Minnie Driver film Hunky Dory. Although it didn’t quite reach the giddy heights of Billy Elliot, from the same producers, it was certainly an impressive start for Tom.

He went on to appear in the films Ironclad: Battle for Blood, Under Milk Wood, and If I Don’t Come Home: Letters from D-Day, before making his mark on TV.

In 2015, Tom portrayed Sackler in the TV series Jekyll and Hyde opposite Tom Bateman and Mark Bonnar. He went on to play Eliot Hollis in the 2018 series of Unforgotten, Rhys in 15 Days, and Mallin in Britannia. In 2020, Tom starred as Axel Collins in the Daniel Mays drama White Lines, before going on to play Eddie Walker in the Uma Thurman US series Suspicion.

Last year, he played Hari in the Welsh crime drama Light in the Hall.

This year will see him lead the cast in the DC Comics movie Clayface. Not back for a Welsh lad from Cardiff!

Who plays Clayface?

Introduced in 1961, Matt Hagen was a treasure hunter who found a radioactive pool of liquid clay in a cave, granting him the power to mould his body into any shape. He becomes a tragic figure, who is a virtually indestructible shape-shifting monster who threatens Gotham City.

The tagline for the film, described as body-horror, says: “Rising Hollywood star Matt Hagen descends into a horrifying revenge-filled monster when scientific ambition strips him of his identity and humanity.”
