Ever fancied having a wander around Weatherfield, having a tour and seeing your favourite Coronation Street characters in the flesh?

Well, you can!

At The Coronation Street Experience, you can explore the sets, meet your favourite characters, and see what life’s really like on the nation’s favourite street. Yes, really.

This popular experience, which has been running for a number of years now, makes the perfect day out for any Corrie lover.

But where are the tours held? What do they involve? And how can you get your hands on a ticket?

Here’s all you need to know about The Coronation Street Experience.

Where is Coronation Street filmed?

Coronation Street is filmed in Manchester, England. For over 50 years, it was shot at Granada Studios before moving in 2014 to a purpose-built set at MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester, where production continues today. The set has expanded over the years, most recently with the addition of Weatherfield Precinct in 2022.

Interior scenes, such like the Rovers Return, the corner shop, and the characters’ homes, are filmed on indoor studio sets at MediaCityUK. These fully built sets give the production team complete control over lighting, sound, and camera angles.

The outdoor scenes take place on a replica of Coronation Street, designed to look and feel like the real thing. While the crew sometimes films on actual Manchester streets, nearly all exterior shots are done on the replica set to keep the look consistent.

How to visit the Coronation Street set

On select weekends and bank holidays, Coronation Street’s exterior set turns into a tourist attraction, giving visitors exclusive access.

The Coronation Street Experience has two different experiences on offer – The Guided Tour or The Star Tour.

Alternatively, you can just visit the exhibition if you want.

But what does each one entail?

The Coronation Street Exhibition

The Coronation Street exhibition is accessible on weekdays and allows you to explore replica sets, such as Roy’s Rolls and the Rovers Return.

You will also be able to see some props, costumes and memorabilia from the iconic soap, and watch some classic Corrie highlights in the on-site cinema.

It’s important to note that this experience does not allow you access into the actual set but is perfect for fans who want the Corrie magic without the full guided tour.

You can round things up by purchasing a piece of Coronation Street merchandise from the gift shop.

The Coronation Street Guided Tour

Coronation Street welcomes visitors for an unmissable tour of Weatherfield every weekend.

Expert guides lead a 90-minute tour through Weatherfield’s most iconic spots.

The tour will guide you to the exterior sets of Rovers Return, Roy’s Rolls and The Kabin. It will also give you an insight into all the behind-the-scenes tricks and secrets. How exciting!

There will be plenty of photo opportunities at the most recognisable spots, so don’t forget your phone or camera.

And fun doesn’t end there as you will get a chance to watch some classic Corrie moments in the on-site cinema.

Finally, this ticket also allows you access into the permanent exhibition, complete with replica sets, original props, and exciting costumes.

There is a cafe on site available to guests and don’t forget to visit the gift shop on the way out, either.

The Coronation Street Star Tour

Expect the same unforgettable experience as you get on the Guided Tour. Except, this one has the added bonus of being able to meet one of Coronation Street’s cast members too. No, this is not a drill.

The line-up is always a surprise, so you’ll only find out who’s appearing on the day, which is all part of the fun, right?

However, previous Star Tours have included: Sally Dynevor (Sally Webster), Sam Aston (Chesney Winter-Brown), Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow), Julia Goulding (Shona Platt), Andy Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) and Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt).

Allow over two hours for this tour.
