2026 has already seen a fair few Coronation Street characters kick the bucket as writers killed them off in tragic scenes.

With more deaths expected to be on the way as the year goes on, here’s a look at every character who has been killed off this year so far.

Theo Silverton

Abusive Theo Silverton’s life has come to a gruesome end as he paid the ultimate price for his actions.

Fans will know that Theo has been abusing husband Todd Grimshaw over the last year, financially, emotionally, and physically.

With the whole Street protective of Todd and finding out what he’s really been up to behind closed doors, there were many who wanted Theo to pay for what he’d done.

On the run from the police, Theo had one final showdown but ended up being killed as he seemingly fell to his death.

This marked the end to James Cartwright’s time on the show as Betsy Swain discovered Theo’s body on the Street.

Cassie Plummer was absolutely buzzing at the thought of proposing to Steve. She wasted no time roping in Mary and Tim to help bring her big plan to life.

With Tim conveniently dragging Steve off on a very suspiciously long walk, Mary got busy transforming the Street with a flower display proudly spelling out ‘Marry me.’

But romance took a back seat before Steve even got a chance to see it. A phone call arrived from an ex of Jim’s, breaking the news that Jim had died.

Quick as a flash, Tim told Mary to cover up the display and called Cassie over to support Steve instead. Plans firmly on pause, the group headed to the Rovers to raise a glass in Jim’s memory.

As Steve tried to process everything, he found himself clinging to the few fond memories he had of his dad.

Meanwhile, Tracy clocked Mary acting more shifty than usual and spotted the engagement ring she was guarding for Cassie.

Mary, not missing a beat, firmly told Tracy to keep quiet – insisting Steve had just lost his dad and didn’t need any more drama stirred up.

After Jim’s death it was revealed that Maggie had slept with Jim back in the day. This made Ben Driscoll and Steve McDonald half-brothers.
Coronation Street's Joan dead

Joan

In February, George Shuttleworth was doing his best to smooth things over with an upset client Joan, keen to repair the damage after Christina’s rather ill-timed joke the day before.

Joan made it clear she wasn’t exactly a fan of Christina. But, she did have plenty of respect for George’s professionalism and integrity, happily agreeing for him to take care of her Dusty Springfield-obsessed sister’s final arrangements.

Relieved to have salvaged his reputation, George was ready to give her sister the send-off she deserved. But the mood quickly shifted when he turned back and realised Joan wasn’t responding at all.

An ambulance was called straight away. But ,it soon became clear Joan had died. This being a moment that poured more fuel on Annie’s case against the undertaker.

Billy Mayhew

During Corriedale in January, things took a terrifying turn when Billy Mayhew found himself injured behind the wheel of a minibus ferrying guests from Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding celebrations.

Passengers like Steve, Cassie, Tracy and Todd managed to scramble out to safety. But, Billy and Theo were still trapped inside the wreckage.

Theo initially stepped in to help Billy. Or, at least made it look like he would. But just as Billy was moments from being freed from his seatbelt, Theo’s true colours came out and he backed off.

Any idea that there might be ‘good’ in Theo was quickly blown apart. He left Billy to his fate, watching on as flames took hold of the van.

Todd was left devastated, dropping to his knees in shock as Theo returned alone, with Billy nowhere to be seen.
