Claire Sweeney ‘to leave’ Coronation Street as Cassie Plummer

Claire has played Tyrone Dobbs’ mum Cassie Plummer since joining Coronation Street in 2023. And, she quickly made her mark on the ITV soap. But after two years on the cobbles, she’s now set to step into a very different pair of shoes.

According to The Sun, Cassie’s final scenes are expected to air this summer.

A Coronation Street spokesperson confirmed the news, saying: “We wish Claire every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play.

“Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in Weatherfield leading up to a great exit storyline.”

Full details of Cassie’s departure are being kept tightly under wraps. However, her final moments are said to be ‘explosive’ – so viewers should brace themselves.

Claire Sweeney lands huge role in UK tour of Annie the Musical

Claire Sweeney will be leaving Coronation Street to take on Miss Hannigan in Annie the Musical. This is a role she has long dreamed of playing.

A source explained that there were early hopes she might be able to balance both Corrie and the stage production. But, that plan ultimately proved impossible.

They said: “At first it was hoped she could do both but the extensive tour just made that impossible so she made the difficult decision to leave.”

The UK tour of Annie is set to begin in May 2026, with Claire sharing the role of Miss Hannigan with LA Voix for certain performances.

The tour will kick off in Wimbledon on Saturday, May 23, 2026. It will then come to an end in Leicester on Sunday, March 14, 2027. So, fans have plenty of chances to see Claire in action once she bids farewell to Weatherfield.
