Prunella Scales as Eileen Hughes in Coronation Street

Most fans would’ve known Prunella for playing Basil Fawlty’s wife Sybil in Fawlty Towers.

Sybil first appeared in 1975 and was known as a ‘bossy’ character with strong managerial skills. Prunella’s last appearance as Sybil was in 2007 when she appeared in a Children in Need special.

However, she also played the part of Eileen Hughes in Coronation Street between January and February 1961.

Eileen was a bus conductress who worked with Harry Hewitt.

Both Eileen and Florrie Lindley competed for Harry but Harry let both women down as he wasn’t attracted to either of them.

Throughout her impressive career, Prunella also starred in productions such as Horrid Henry: The Movie, The Marriage Line, and Casualty.

Her last showbiz appearance was in 2015 when she did voice work in the film, The Big Knights.
