Emmerdale is not on tonight (Monday, March 24) in a shake up to the regular TV schedule, and fans are not happy.

The soap usually airs at 7.30pm on Mondays, with the episode also available to watch on ITVX from 7am. But this is not the case today, with Coronation Street also a victim of the schedule change.

Here’s why Emmerdale is not on tonight

Just like on Friday night, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have to make way for the football tonight.

From 7pm to 10.05pm, ITV will air coverage of the World Cup qualifier between England and Latvia from Wembley Stadium.

However, the good news is there will be an hour long episode of Emmerdale on Tuesday, March 25, starting at 7pm, to make up for it.

The last episode of Emmerdale saw Ella Forster being blamed for tampering with Chas’s medication, causing her to collapse.

Ella pleaded her innocence, but was still arrested for the crime. Chas agreed to drop the charges on condition that Ella left the Dales. Viewers will see what Ella decides to do tomorrow.

Fans express disappointment at schedule change

Due to the live nature of sport, soaps are often moved. Although it’s expected now, Emmerdale fans are still annoyed at the TV schedule change.

“Why aren’t Emmerdale and Coronation Street streamed online on the days football is broadcast? You expect soap viewers to change their loyal watching habit to suit the few who watch football,” complained one viewer on X.

A second viewer added: “Football has its own channel for a reason. Use it as such.”

Over on Reddit, there was a similar feeling, with a third fan complaining: “It seems as if sport is disrupting schedules a lot more than it used to.”

A fourth fan said: “I’d be thrilled if one day they cancelled football for something,” with a fifth adding: “Can’t wait until it’s on daily again.”

Another fan had a suggestion of their own, writing: “Why don’t they just play football in the day time instead of during soaps?”
