Emmerdale fans are convinced the soap has given away who killed Nate as their updated ITVX poster hints that John Sugden is a ‘serial killer’.
It’s not uncommon for Emmerdale’s ITVX poster to change along with the storylines. Just a few weeks ago it changed to show both Joe and Caleb – and now we’re right in the middle of a kidney theft storyline involving them.
So, when eagle-eyed viewers noticed it has changed again, they immediately wondered if it was linked to an upcoming story. The poster, which can be viewed here, has convinced fans that in Emmerdale John Sugden is a serial killer.

The picture now shows two images merged of John Sugden. One up close of his head looking away, and one of him standing staring straight ahead. And they look pretty menacing…
There has long been theories and rumours that John is a secret serial killer. And when everyone was wondering who killed Nate, fingers immediately pointed at him. So, now with this new mysterious ITVX poster, it isn’t helping him look innocent.
Taking to a reddit thread, one user wrote: “I noticed Emmerdale’s ITVX poster has changed to a very mysterious Netflix / True Crime image of John. Are they hinting that we will finally get some movement on his character?
Another user responded: “Oh well they have given it away. He murdered Nate.”
A third penned: “That’s a lot of effort to go to for a poster if they weren’t about to reveal he is a serial killer. Lately the only air time he is getting is ‘Why doesn’t Chas like me’.”
“This has gotten me excited. If you read the spoilers for next week we seem to be getting more John storylines. Seems like we are finally going somewhere interesting with his character.”
Another fan commented: “I’m glad everyone who said he was a villain and killed Nate is finally being proved right.”
Fans fear for who serial killer John Sugden will kill ‘next’
While the consensus is that John was the one who killed Nate, it seems fans don’t think he is finished. And now they are all worried for everyone else in the village.
Theorising as to why John would have killed people, one fan believes he has “hero syndrome” from his time in Afghanistan with Aidan Moore.
They penned: “I definitely think he killed Nate. But I am unsure on whether it was intentional or not. My theory is he makes people ill to ‘save’ them and be the hero. Maybe Nate died before he got the chance because of the fire. Maybe he does it because he couldn’t save his fellow soldiers.”
As for who is next on Emmerdale’s serial killer John Sugden’s list, fans on X think it’s either Gail or Mack.
One wrote: “I definitely think Mackenzie could be a victim of John. It might happen in the Summer months. So far it has been one flash-forward a month. My guess is this one will be the body bag and by June we will see Mack running from John.”
A viewer penned: “Maybe Gail since she is leaving the show??”
Whether John was truly the one who killed Nate or not remains to be seen. But the new ITVX poster definitely suggests we will be seeing a lot more of him over the coming weeks.
