Brenda should never have been axed in Emmerdale - OPINION

Emmerdale Insider’s Carena Crawford believes getting rid of Brenda was the wrong move – and the latest storyline just proves it!

Eric Pollard is getting worse. Coupled with that he is also getting older. He needs Brenda back, but where is she? On a round-the world cruise.

Of course, it’s not her fault, it’s because the soap axed her earlier this year. Her exit was reported by The Mirror who claimed rising production costs were behind the decision. And although Lesley Dunlop has remained silent on her exit, it is fair to assume this was not her choice.

Brenda should never have been axed from Emmerdale!

Brenda ran the café and got involved in all the village gossip. She made us laugh on more than one occasion, so really, what harm was she actually doing? There is plenty of deadwood in Emmerdale that we would happily have seen gone. But Brenda just wasn’t involved enough to be one of them.

Some might say this is reason enough to get rid of her – what was she adding? True, but her time had not yet come. This is her time and this was where she could have made a difference.

Eric is really struggling and it would have been far more interesting to see how they coped with this latest challenge being thrown their way. Instead he is sobbing on his bed alone and looking at old photographs of her and Val.

It really was a poor decision to axe Brenda when she would have become so useful in later scenes. It feels short-sighted.

Having also killed off Amy Barton the soap are taking the opportunity to push Kerry Wyatt and Eric Pollard together in this disfunctional surrogate father/daughter relationship. We’re not opposed to it, and it certainly gives Kerry something to do, but we’d rather it was Brenda.
