He’s a myterious character about whom very little has been revealed. But we’re promised he will certainly shake things up for one villager in particular. But who is actor Chris Coghill? Perhaps best-known to soap fans as evil Tony King in EastEnders, Chris has a wealth of film and TV credits to his name. In fact, he’s been in just about everything! Here’s what we know about him. And it turns out he’s also looking for someone we know! But who? And why now? Emmerdale producer Laura said of the newcomer: “We are delighted that someone of Chris’ calibre has joined our cast. Actor Chris Coghill has had a long and varied career (Credit: KEn McKay/ITV/Shutterstock) Who is Chris Coghill? Chris was born in Prestwich on April 11, 1975. He had small roles in Cold Feet, Heartbeat, Holby City and Doctors as well as drama Burn It where he met his future wife, Lisa Faulkner. In 2004 he made his first movie, 24 Hour Party People, playing Happy Mondays’ star Bez. Other big screen outings include Nowhere Boy, The Banker, Weekender and Spike Island. He had a recurring role in Channel 4’s Shameless as Craig Garland. And he also had stints in Waterloo Road, Hotel Babylon and Holby Blue. Then in 2008 he joined the cast of EastEnders in a very memorable role. Tony King was arrested after his true nature was exposed (Credit: BBC) EastEnders role Between 2008 and 2009 Chris played Tony King in EastEnders. The controversial role saw Tony groom and sleep with Whitney Dean, who was 12 years old when the relationship started. Tony was Bianca Jackson’s boyfriend and when stepdaughter Whitney confessed they were in love, she was horrified. Bianca made Whitney see she had been raped and abused and called the police. Tony was arrested. Chris reprised the role for Tony’s trial in 2009 and, after being found guilty, Tony took his own life in prison. Later on, Chris admitted playing such an awful character had affected his career. “EastEnders killed my career a bit,” he told The Sun. However he also said he was “proud” of the impact the role had. Post-EastEnders saw the actor take on the role of ambulance driver Bobby Sheridan in The Royal. He has since appeared in plenty of other dramas including Blue Murder, Hollyoaks Later, Line of Duty, Murdered for Being Different, Slow Horses and most recently The Bay on ITV. Of his new soap role, Chris said: “I am really happy to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Chris met actress turned TV chef Lisa Faulkner on the set of Burn It and they married in London in 2005. They then adopted a daughter together who was born in 2006. In 2011 the couple revealed they were separating. Lisa went on to marry celebrity chef and MasterChef presenter John Torode. Meanwhile, Chris reportedly married Rosalind Halstead in 2014. Although they keep their relationship very private, she is also an actress. She is known for shows such as Agatha Raisin, Holby City and Disney+ Star Wars spin-off series Andor.
