Graham Foster is back in Emmerdale and all the clues point to him having killed Ray Walters. However, despite the theory gaining serious weight after tonight’s episode (Tuesday January 20), there are hints this is another of Emmerdale’s infamous red herrings.

Did Graham really kill Ray? Looking at the evidence, we’re not so sure…

Graham explained himself in Emmerdale tonight

In Rhona’s flashback tonight, she and Marlon were spiralling over missing April. As Marlon went to look for his daughter, Rhona was stunned when a figure grabbed her from behind.

It turned out to be Graham who told her he didn’t have much time, but was here to help. Rhona demanded an explanation over how and why he was alive.

Graham told her he had wanted to protect Rhona from Kim who he had discovered was trying to kill him. He knew she would never leave them alone and also knew Rhona would stand by him. So he decided to leave without her and start a new life.

Graham went looking for Marlon to apologise and get him to protect Rhona from Pierce Harris who was on the loose. Graham didn’t kill Pierce himself because he didn’t want Rhona to hate him for being a murderer.

Once Pierce ran Graham down, Graham explained he had accepted dying. But then he came round and decided that his death was the only way for Rhona to move on.

He knew how to play dead from being in the SAS and he was helped by old SAS friends to get out of the country. DI Dent had blackmailed everyone involved to keep quiet.

Graham had intended to go back and get rid of Pierce to protect Rhona, but he started drinking again. He blacked out and woke up on a ferry. His friend told him Pierce had been caught, later revealing he had lied because Graham was in no fit state to deal with Pierce.

Emmerdale hints Graham killed Ray

So why is Graham back now? Well, his new job involves him sorting out problems the police can’t. And also for the highest bidder. He had been hired by a powerful man, but when he knew it was people trafficking and drugs, he pulled out.

Graham discovered the man had links to the people in Emmerdale and when April’s name came up, Graham knew he had no choice but to help.

He then told Rhona he would deal with Ray and assured her: “I won’t make the mistake of sparing Ray like I spared Pierce.”

Giving Rhona a number to contact him on, he put his hood up and escaped the village.

Clues Graham did not kill Ray in Emmerdale

Sounds like a done deal? Ex-SAS man who know ‘deals with problems’ kills known people trafficker and drug dealer? Case closed. Or is it..

1. It’s only Tuesday!

Emmerdale has already confirmed we will find out who killed Ray on Thursday January 22. So we still have one more episode before then to go.

It means we still need to hear the stories of the other suspects: Marlon, Ross, Paddy and Dylan. Which also means we can’t close the case just yet.

2. Ross has a gun!

And on the subject of Marlon and Ross, the closing scene of tonight’s episode could have been a big clue they were involved somehow.

Marlon was seen banging on Ross’ car window as Ross told him he would “deal with Ray”. Marlon, who is armed with a knife, screamed after Ross April was his daughter.

Tomorrow night (Wednesday January 21) we see Ross with a gun. Did he use it?

3. Graham has knowledge

Much has been made this week of Graham’s SAS background. If the man knows how to play dead and hold his breath for a REALLY long time, he knows how to dispose of a body.

Therefore, chances are, he would not have just dumped it in Jai’s van and left it. He would have got rid of it properly, with no trace whatsoever.

This murder has amateur all over it, not a professional ex-army bloke who can cover up his messes.

So whodunnit?
