Ruby’s solicitor encouraged her pretend she was mentally unwell, which she pulled off successfully. But it wasn’t until the police got news that Anthony had contacted the Spanish authorities, she was let go. Though in a shock twist, Steph had told Joe everything after he found her having a panic attack, and asked him to help. Joe had a contact from Spain forge Anthony’s passport and go to the authorities as proof of life. Surprisingly, Joe wanted nothing in return except to make things right. A persistent theory suggests Anthony isn’t dead (Credit: ITV) Is Anthony alive in Emmerdale? Ever since Ruby killed her dad, a very persistent theory is that he is actually still alive. At the time, John disposed of the body – but we still don’t know where he put it. And as the months have gone on, we have learned that John definitely has some sort of hero complex and likes to save people. So ultimately, could Anthony have had a bit of life left in him, and John saved the day again? It would certainly fit with what we know about his character. If he did save him, did Anthony just choose to leave and not come back in shame of what he did? Or has John got him held hostage somewhere so that he can be in control of when he returns? The theory has been circulating for months, and fans don’t seem to be letting it up. Especially as there is just too many unanswered questions about the whole thing.
