As Sarah Sugden prepared for an operation to rid her of cancer, her mind was firmly on her plan to become a mum. She admitted to Charity that she was desperate for the operation to be over so that she could start IVF. Sarah also shared her worry that something might go wrong during the operation. Unfortunately for her, her worst fears were confirmed when a doctor revealed some devastating news. Charity comforted Sarah ahead of her surgery (Credit: ITV) Sarah’s operation doesn’t go to plan In hospital, as she prepared for the operation, Sarah told Charity Dingle she was manifesting a happy future. As she confided her worries to her grandmother, she realised that Charity wasn’t fully on board with her baby plan. Charity admitted she didn’t think the IVF was a good idea. She told Sarah: “After the operation, you should be out there exploring the world, making the most of it.” article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Having previously told Charity that she had been more of a mum to her than Debbie, Sarah took the words back and told Charity she was rubbish. As Sarah was wheeled into theatre, Charity responded by telling Sarah it was about time she manifested some common sense and accepted that she can’t be a mum. As Charity and Cain waited for news, Charity said she felt guilty for leaving things on a bad note with Sarah. Their chat was interrupted by a doctor, who told the pair: “I’m really sorry but things haven’t gone to plan.” Charity and Cain then stood by Sarah’s hospital bedside as doctors delivered the terrible news. They attempted to soften the blow by telling Sarah that there was no indication that the cancer had spread. The doctor then explained that they discovered during surgery that her blood vessels are very fragile, probably due to her Fanconi anaemia. Sarah was devastated as the doctor told her: “Unfortunately , we couldn’t tie off the vessels that supplied the uterus. As a result, you had a massive haemorrhage during surgery. We were left with no choice. We had to perform an emergency hysterectomy.” As Sarah broke down over the news that she wouldn’t be able to carry a baby, she ordered Cain and Charity out of the room. Sarah carrying a pregnancy was already incredibly risky and unlikely even before having her cervix removed. Sure after the complicated operation she will have to rethink it?” they wrote. Other fans agreed, and suggested a family member will be the surrogate. One fan wrote: “Charity might offer to be a surrogate.” With a second fan responding: “That was my thinking too. Or if the actress who plays Sarah wanted time off, she could have Debbie do it in Australia.” A third fan wrote: “I definitely think most likely is Charity being surrogate. Pollard was concerned for Jacob After Kammy let slip about Sarah's cancer and baby plan to Eric, he was quick to question his grandson about what was going on. Jacob admitted to Pollard that he was going to help Sarah have a baby via IVF. Pollard was weary and wanted to know what happens if Sarah "gets ill or worse". But Jacob was determined for Sarah to achieve her dream. He later went off to make his "donation" – oblivious that Sarah's plan was now in tatters. Paddy was concerned for his father in Emmerdale tonight Paddy returned home to see Bear playing tea parties with Eve. He wanted to know why Eve wasn't at school. Bear insisted Paddy never mentioned that Eve had to go to school. Later on the phone, Paddy was heard saying "I definitely told him". Paddy then had a chat with Gabby, telling her Bear was acting oddly, experiencing mood swings and forgetting stuff. Gabby advised Paddy to get Bear checked out as it sounds familiar to what her dad went through (Ashley was diagnosed with dementia. However, when Paddy later asked Bear to go to the doctor for a check up, Bear refused and lashed out at his son. Gabby shared that there are tests online Paddy could do without Bear's knowledge. John took it upon himself to ask Gabby if there was anything going there, but she was reluctant to hire Robert. However, later Matty agreed to giving Robert a trial at the farm. Mack had reservations, but agreed as long as Matty was the one to inform Moira. The three men appeared to get on and enjoyed drinks in the pub after. When Mack made a sarcastic comment about John, Robert realised he could have a potential ally in his quest to split John and Aaron up. Joe got some hate mail in Emmerdale tonight As Joe instructed his contact to give Billy a warning, he was shocked to find a letter on his bed. It read: "Don’t you think you can ever sleep easy. I’m watching you." When his pal returned to Home Farm later to inform him that he'd been following Billy all day, so Billy couldn't have been the one to leave the note on his bed, Joe became more confused over who exactly is trying to torment him.
