ITV/Comp Emmerdale Insider Share By Carena Crawford Aug 1 2025 By Carena Crawford Aug 1 2025 Emmerdale spoilers: Robert’s revenge after John’s win – what needs to happen next Enough is enough, John needs to go John Sugden Robert Sugden Share By Carena Crawford Aug 1 2025 By Carena Crawford Aug 1 2025 A collective sigh of frustration when around every Emmerdale fan’s living room just now as John Sugden seemed to win another round against half-brother Robert. We all know it needs to end. We all know it will end. But when? It’s got to be soon, none of us can take much more of this. So what needs to happen next? From finding Anthony’s body to John being caught red-handed, here’s how Emmerdale must wrap things up – and fast. Robert apologised to smug John in the hospital (Credit: ITV) What happened in Emmerdale tonight? Robert was on a country road somewhere, not sure what to do after attacking John on Thursday (July 31). Meanwhile, John woke up in hospital with Aaron by his bedside. John lied it was a totally unprovoked attack. Victoria tried to get John not to tell the police the truth so she could get Robert help. Robert returned to the village to be accosted by Ross, who demanded Moira’s farm was given back to her. Victoria broke them up and Robert tried to explain what really happened. She told him he has to ask John for forgiveness and although he refused at first, Rob then he went to see his brother. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Robert told him he was so sorry and he just snapped because he was in a state. John called him a violent bully and Robert said prison has made him that way. “I’m a mess and I’m scared,” he told John. He begged for a lifeline. John wasn’t convinced, but Robert played the family card and they discussed Jack and how he and Robert weren’t actually close at all. Robert then swore he wouldn’t go near Aaron again and he would also get help. Robert promised to stop spreading lies. John said he wouldn’t tell the police and despite Aaron being against the idea, John insisted. And it turned out John has a trump card anyway, the dashcam from his van has recorded everything. It is time to wrap this plot up (Credit: ITV) The John Sugden plot needs to end in Emmerdale There’s plenty of loose ends to be tied up with this plot and it’s time Emmerdale started tying them. With actor Oliver Farnworth stating earlier this year he is on a year’s contract, that must be running out soon. As he first appeared on screen as John in September 2024, we can surely only have a maximum of a month left. Here’s what we think needs to happen to lead to John’s downfall at long last. Ruby was the real cause of the Emmerdale Anthony death, but John was involved too (Credit: ITV) 1. Where’s Anthony’s body? John was integral in disposing Anthony Fox’s body. Fans keep asking where the body is, but only John knows. We thought it was in the lake with Nate, but it wasn’t. He said he’d buried it in the woods – he hadn’t. So come on, where is it? It’s a huge part of John’s story – is Anthony even actually dead?! We can’t confirm it as we only had John’s word for it. This loose end needs to be sorted – and it could be the one to bring John down. Mack really didn’t like John (Credit: ITV) 2. Robert needs an ally against John in Emmerdale Robert has been back in town five minutes and he’s worked out literally EVERYTHING John has done. He’s spot on with what happened to Owen, who John framed for Nate’s death. He’s worked out what happened to Jacob with the coffee ‘mix-up’ and he knows that John is always playing the hero whenever there’s a crisis. So why can nobody else see it? Even Mack has backed down. Mack hated him and could absolutely see John’s true colours, but suddenly thinks he’s ace. Yes, the people in Emmerdale are pretty stupid – they always fail to spot a serial killer in their midst (and there have been plenty!), but this time, it’s just ridiculous. Robert needs an ally – someone else who suspects John. And together they can orchestrate John’s downfall. Wake up again! (Credit: ITV) 3. Aidan Moore to wake up Back in May, John was about to marry Aaron when his ex-fiancé Aidan Moore woke up from his coma. A coma John put him in. At the time we were sure this was the end and Aidan would tell all – John thought so too because he tried to finish the job. However, he couldn’t go through with it. But the stress of it all sent Aidan back into a coma. And as far as we know that’s where he still is. Surely he’s a ticking timebomb who could wake up at any minute? Surely that’s what’s coming before the end of this? Aaron is perhaps the biggest village idiot (Credit: ITV) 4. Aaron to open his eyes For goodness sake Aaron, what are you doing? Robert loves Aaron, Aaron loves Robert, Robert knows Aaron loves him, John also knows Aaron loves Robert and frankly Aaron knows he loves Robert too. But he won’t admit it and is refusing to see John for who he really is. What’s really grating though, and we mean really, really grating, is the way Aaron is treating Robert. Robert went to prison for defending his sister who had been raped. It’s hardly an unprovoked attack that he threw his life away on. Aaron knows that. Sure, Aaron was heartbroken when Rob ended things, but he did that to set Aaron free, not to hurt him. Open your eyes, Aaron, and then maybe you’ll see what’s right in front of you. He’s the only man who can crack this case (Credit: ITV) 5. DS Foy to take over No disrespect to DS Walsh (actually, quite a lot of disrespect, she’s useless!) but there is only one man who can save this case: DS Foy. The man can smell a lying rat a mile off – and we have no doubt he would see John the moment he laid eyes on him. So far the police have failed to do any proper investigation into Nate’s death. They’ve made a pig’s ear of the whole thing. They’ve pointed the finger at Cain and then Tracy without any actual evidence and they’ve taken Owen’s supposed confession at face value without investigating the facts. Have they even established how Nate died? The police need to start doing their jobs properly so John can be caught out. The end must be nigh (Credit: ITV) 6. The John, Aaron and Robert showdown to end all showdowns needs to happen in Emmerdale It’s time. We’ve gone back and forth, a little bit of tit, a little bit of tat. But now it needs to culminate in the big pay-off. Heck, let’s throw Cain in too and why not Tracy! Let’s take him down and let’s do it soon. What else happened in Emmerdale tonight, Friday August 1?
