After switching a couple of coffees around, Jacob went into Anaphylactic shock, and was at death’s door. John was on had to save Jacob’s life, putting himself back in Liam’s good graces. And, as the soap revealed the extent of John’s hero complex, we learned exactly what he’s capable of. Elsewhere, a drunken Vanessa lashed out, publicly exposing Tracy’s secret. And, as Kim and Gabby made up, Steph stressed about her looks. Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale last night. It was John who cancelled the wedding and bricked the Woolpack (Credit: ITV) John reflected on past actions in Emmerdale last night As morning broke in the village, John reflected on his recent actions. A flashback showed him as he tended to an unconscious Chas in the Woolpack, rescuing Ruby from the barn fire, and resuscitating Moira in the wake of the blaze. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Spotting Chas drop her keys, he rushed over to play the hero again. ‘Lifesaver’ John hit her up for advice on winning over his angry boss, who was still stewing over John’s foul-up at the surgery on Tuesday. At work, Jacob was ready to shadow Liam for the day. Things were still frosty as John arrived, eager to make amends. He attempted to apologise, promising Liam that it’d never happen again. Ever sanctimonious, Liam responded by suggesting that John might be in the wrong job, given his recent attitude. Another flashback played, showing John at the bedside of the mystery patient last night (no, it’s not Mack!). With Liam having gone on his way, John reached into Jacob’s bag and pocketed his EpiPen… Left alone with Jacob as Manpreet and Liam ran errands, John put his plan into motion. And, as Jacob moaned about ‘absolute tool’ Kammy, John packed him off to lunch, with orders to bring him back a lovely almond milk latte. Chas arrived looking for her beau, but found John instead. As she shared her turmoil over the recent Ella situation, another flashback unfolded – John, sending an e-mail to Belle, cancelling the wedding on behalf of ‘Liam Carvanagh.’ And then, another, flinging a brick through the window of the Woolpack. What’s John been up to? Jacob struggled to breathe after drinking John’s nutty latte (Credit: ITV) John spiked Jacob As Jacob returned from work with John’s almond latte, he quizzed the former army medic on his life in the military. As he shared his experience as a lifesaver, John’s flashbacks continued – this time showing him as he gave first aid to Aaron at the underground fight. “Bringing back someone from the brink like that is the most rewarding thing in the world,” he said, hinting at his true motivation. Talking of which, he’d soon have another life to save – swapping the stickers on the coffee so that Jacob took his almond milk latte instead. Leaving Jacob to mind the reception desk, John slipped away. Victoria swung by just as the symptoms of Jacob’s nut allergy took hold. Gasping for air, he collapsed to the ground… only for them to find his EpiPen missing. And, as John watched from another room, yes – you guessed it – another flashback. This time, John was with Nate, tending to his injuries following his beating at the hands of Cain. From the back of his van, he retrieved a syringe… Back in the present, John rushed into action. Grabbing an EpiPen from his own medical kit (but not before swapping the stickers back), he set about saving Jacob’s life. And, as the scene cut back to his time with Nate, John injected him with a mystery serum, knocking him unconscious. As Jacob began to return to his senses, John tended to his latest patient. No harm done, and Liam was impressed with his quick action (but not without throwing in a snide comment first). Back in flashback land, whatever he’d injected Nate with hadn’t had quite the same effect, and he took a turn for the worse as the barn fire blazed on… It was John who killed Nate… accidentally (Credit: ITV) The truth about Nate revealed As everyone praised John’s handiwork, he was quick to remind the doctor how dead Jacob would be if he hadn’t intercepted. Liam agreed to draw a line under their disagreement, and drop the official warning. Job done. Back home, John celebrated his good news by sharing a passionate embrace with Aaron. Merrily post-coitus, John apologised for his recent mood, blaming it on a PTSD flare-up. As Aaron nipped off to get changed for their trip to the pub, John received a visit from Victoria. She praised his saving Jacob yet again, and told him that he needed to forgive himself about not being able to save everyone. In the Woolpack, everyone was ready to throw hero John a party for his actions. John reveled in the praise. As talk turned to Nate, John dived back into flashback-land to relive his recent glories. But, among all the heroism, another truth was revealed – it had been John who tampered with Chas’s pills, causing her collapse in the first place. But there was worse to come – and, with Nate dead in the back of his van, John set about covering up his botch-job, pocketing Nate’s phone and dumping his body… well, we all know where. Vanessa lashed out (Credit: ITV) Vanessa’s grief boiled over in Emmerdale last night Vanessa was still in a foul mood over Mary and Rhona. ‘You can’t trust anyone in this world,’ she ranted, before questioning her sister over how things had gone with Pollard yesterday. Vanessa was dismayed to learn that Tracy had let Pollard blame himself for the shop’s losses, lumping her in with Suzy, Rhona and Mary. ‘There comes a point where you look at the people near you and think “what are they really capable of?”‘ she vented – passing a brooding John just as she uttered the fateful words. At work, Tracy tried to ease her guilty conscience with a cookie for Pollard. He was keen to make his ‘incompetence’ up to her, and bemoaned his declining faculties. Bolstered by her kind words, he offered to treat her to lunch, closing the work so he could spend time with his favourite employee. At the pub, moody Vanessa downed a large glass of wine, having given herself the day off for sulking purposes. She’d spent the day deleting all evidence of Suzy from her phone, while filling her liver with booze. Vanessa laid out some home truths (Credit: ITV) Vanessa exposed thieving Tracy in Emmerdale last night After downing a whole bottle, Vanessa was in a fighting mood. Nipping by the Woolpack to confront her AWOL colleague, Rhona wasn’t best pleased to find her white wine-drunk – and Vanessa only exacerbated the situation by describing Rhona’s mum as ‘a slapper.’ As they got into it, Vanessa exploded at her friend, accusing her of driving April away. Ouch. Her vitriol continued as she described Rhona’s parenting style as a ‘train crash in slow motion.’ Self-pitying Vanessa continued to vent (even dragging Charity into it), before throwing Tracy under the bus too. As Pollard leapt to Tracy’s defence, Vanessa decided to share the truth about Tracy’s theft at work. Poor Pollard was left devastated – you can actually pinpoint the second when his heart rips in half. Tracy had no choice but to admit the truth. Heartbroken by her betrayal, he had no time for her attempts to apologise or explain the situation, and fired her on the spot. As the dust settled, Vanessa was unrepentant, laying in to Nate too (“probably spending Frankie’s child support on the latest poor cow he’s impregnated”). Finally, Charity took action, and sent her former lover packing – to the bathroom, where she set about throwing up the best part of two bottles of wine. Rhona and Vanessa finally began to make amends as she held her friend’s hair while she chundered. Vanessa felt immediately regretful and apologised to Rhona as they reminisced over old times. Back at home, she recovered from her hangover with a rather fetching sleep mask. She attempted to apologise to Tracy, who informed her that she planned on packing up and moving to Nottingham. Has Vanessa driven Tracy away? Gabby continued to get on Sam’s nerves (Credit: ITV) A new home for Vinny and Gabby in Emmerdale last night Gabby was feeling good about her parting ways with Kim Tate, and shared her good cheer with Vinny as they walked through the village. Sam, however, was feeling altogether less positive, given that Gabby had poured all the Dingles’ milk down the sink for being too ‘milky.’ Watching as he stormed off in a sulk, Gabby began to suspect that she wasn’t Sam’s favourite person. Just then, Kim walked over for a chat. Gabby tried to make her excuses, but Vinny left them to it. With Kim apparently eager to forget their feud, she’d gotten Gabby a surprise. Not just any surprise either – she’d gifted Gabby and Thomas a house, rent-free. Gabby was quick to forgive and forget – but not without securing a free bathroom refurb first. Gabby set about measuring up her new home, sharing the happy news with Vinny. He was suspicious of Kim’s motives, but soon won over with talk of all the uninterrupted sex they could have all over their free house. Also happy at Vinny and Gabby’s news – Sam. At the Dingles, Kim handed over the keys, where she shared her relief at having made up with Gabby. As the young lovers headed upstairs to finish packing, Kim and Sam shared a moment. He admitted that he’d lied about them moving to Leeds. Win-win. Steph’s identity crisis continues (Credit: ITV) Ross and Steph went on a date in Emmerdale last night Steph had been packed off to the cafe after doing Caleb’s head in. Meeting Ross, she revealed that he’d been given her dad’s seal of approval – while she shared how close she was feeling to him since the whole Anthony revelation. Looking to cheer her up, Ross suggested a day in town. Later, returning home from their daytrip, he invited her back to his to rekindle things in the bedroom too. She needed more time though and, as they shared a kiss, she opted to spend the evening caring for Caleb instead. Peering at her reflection in the window of the car, her face fell, haunted by what she knows. Read more: Who’s leaving Emmerdale in 2025?
