Sometimes they spill over into real-life and often they become headline-worthy. There’s been a fair few spats over the years of Emmerdale, so let’s take a look at the biggest ones of all time. Off-screen Emmerdale feuds: Cheating scandals More than once cheating scandals have emerged amongst the cast of Emmerdale… Peter Amory and Claire King were married for 10 years (Credit: Shutterstock) Samantha Giles, Claire King and Peter Amory Kim Tate actress Claire King married Chris Tate star Peter Amory in 1994. They were together for 10 years, but things ended when Claire discovered Peter had been having an affair – with Bernice Blackstock actress Samantha Giles. Speaking to The Mirror in 2005, Claire revealed: “It was Samantha’s husband who wrote me a letter and told me. That was about four years ago. I questioned Pete and he told me it was over but then it started again. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers “At that point I said: ‘Well you have to go with her then, because it obviously isn’t going to stop’.” Speaking on Loose Women in 2017, Claire said time was a great healer. She added she’d actually realised she was also partly to blame for her marriage split. She said: “It had got past the seven year itch into the 10 years, it was coming to that fork in the road and you either go down that path or you decide to take different routes.Don't miss a single story! They split when Mike left the show with sources at the time saying they “drifted apart”. However it was later alleged that then-girlfriend of Danny Miller (Aaron Dingle) Kirsty-Leigh Porter (Ros Fielding) found texts on Danny’s phone between him and Isabel that confirmed an affair. According to The Sun, the scandal caused the cast to fall out and “split into camps” on set. “Michael was also angry. He thought he and Danny were close friends,” an inside source claimed. “The tension between them caused major problems on set, because Michael made it crystal clear he didn’t want to be around Danny.” Isabel and Michael stayed together after the reported scandal. However, they parted ways when Michael moved to America in 2019. Off-screen Emmerdale feuds: Racism row In 2021 Isabel Hodgins and Matthew Wolfenden (Victoria Sugden and David Metcalfe) were caught up in a racism row. In November 2021, The Sun reported that things got “very heated” in an on-set row between Matthew and Isabel. The source claimed: “It left a lot of those present at the filming feeling uncomfortable. It was a very heated situation. Tempers were running very high. It was tense and bosses got to hear about what had gone on very quickly.” Later that month, however, new reports emerged that the clash was actually between Isabel and Matthew and Aaron Anthony (Ellis Chapman). The Sun alleged there was a comment made, plus the mimicking of a mixed-race co-star’s accent. The co-star was not identified. A source said: “We have been told that Aaron brought this up with Matthew subsequently and that there was a tense conversation between them. Matthew and Isabel stopped filming afterwards. “Emotions have been running high on set ever since. But no one knows what to believe. “The female cast member who was involved is filming as normal. But she wishes that she wasn’t entangled in it.” Aaron Anthony was the second person to play Ellis (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock) Aaron Anthony leaves Emmerdale Aaron then left the show in February 2022 with reports claiming he quit over what had happened. A source told The Sun: “Aaron is bitterly angry about this situation and he has had to be persuaded to come back to Leeds to film his scenes in recent months. “He has done some filming over the last couple of weeks, but the understanding is that those scenes will be his last.” The insider said Aaron appeared “very vocal” about the allegations. “He now feels his position on the show is untenable,” the source added. What did Emmerdale say about the situation? Emmerdale released a statement when the initial reports emerged. They said: “While we would never comment on individual cases, Emmerdale has robust policies in place to deal with any allegations brought to our attention and take the appropriate steps. “Neither actor has been suspended from Emmerdale.” When later asked about Aaron’s exit, a spokesperson added: “We don’t comment on cast contracts.” Matthew opened up on his Emmerdale suspension (Credit: Lewis Nicholls Show) Matthew Wolfenden speaks out on Emmerdale off-screen feud After keeping silent for some time on the matter, Matthew was directly asked about it on The Lewis Nicholls Show in May 2025. He said: “We were falsely accused of doing an accent on set. Whenever the word race is used, they have to take it seriously. A young cast member mistakenly thought he heard us doing a Chinese accent. So he went to see the producer and said ‘I’m not very happy about this, I just heard them mimicking a Chinese accent’. “Because of this, we did have to get suspended. As soon as that issue is brought up, they have to go down the correct route to investigate what happened.” He said: “Me and Izzy were working together lots at the time because our characters were in a relationship. We both loved watching comedies and we were sat one day talking about the comedies we love and mimicking scenes.” Matthew explained that he and Isabel were actually acting out a particular scene from their favourite comedy show – the orange juice scene from The League of Gentlemen – which he mimicked during the interview to show what he had done on set. Matthew went on to reveal that while he “wanted” to tell his side of the story, he was encouraged to “stay quiet”. Eventually, the negativity led to him spending a month in The Priory. Matthew left the show soon afterwards. But Isabel remains as Victoria, though she has recently gone on maternity leave after giving birth to her first child. Asan N’Jie was sacked by Emmerdale after his outburst (Credit: David Fisher/Shutterstock) Emmerdale off-screen feuds: Asan N’Jie’s violent threats In September 2019 a night out at the TV Choice Awards went very wrong for original Ellis Chapman actor Asan N’Jie. He was caught on camera throwing a punch at Hollyoak star Jamie Lomas. The Mirror obtained footage of the incident in which Asan reportedly threatened to “knife” and “kill” Jamie. They were held back by co-stars and eventually pulled apart. At the time, Emmerdale said: “We are extremely concerned to hear about an incident at last night’s TV Choice Awards involving one of Emmerdale’s cast. “Obviously we will be investigating and talking to the actor concerned in due course.” The soap then revealed: “Emmerdale suspended Asan N’Jie pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night. “ITV executives have met with him and as a consequence Asan’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.” In his own statement, Asan said: “My behaviour at the TV Choice awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character. “I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family, and the organisers of the TV Choice awards. “I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.” Roxanne Pallett withdrew from public life after her Big Brother appearance (Credit: Shutterstock) Emmerdale off-screen feuds: Roxanne Pallett and the cast Roxanne Pallett played Jo Stiles on the soap from 2005 until 2008. But it was when she went into the Big Brother house in 2018 that her off-screen feuds with almost all of the Emmerdale cast emerged. Roxanne accused former Corrie star Ryan Thomas of punching her. But footage of the exact incident revealed nothing of the sort had happened at all. Ofcom received over 25000 complaints about Roxanne’s accusations that Ryan left crying in the diary room. After the incident happened 20 of Roxanne’s former Emmerdale colleagues took to social media to call her out. Nick Miles who plays Jimmy King called her “toxic”. Verity Rushworth (Donna Windsor) Adele Silva (Kelly Windsor) and Charley Webb (Debbie Dingle) were among those who also made their feelings clear. Roxanne has since apologised and withdrawn from the public eye. She moved to New York and got married to firefighter Jason Carrion in 2020 before welcoming their first child together in 2021. Ryan went on to win that series of Big Brother. He has remained one of the nation’s favourite personalities after various other TV stints, including take home the Dancing On Ice trophy in 2024.
