Our hearts are broken Cain Dingle Corriedale Share By Rebecca Sayers Jan 5 2026 By Rebecca Sayers Jan 5 2026 There were quite a few shocks in Corriedale tonight, but one of the biggest moments was when Cain Dingle was told he may have cancer. Corriedale brought death, fear and explosions to the residents of Emmerdale and Coronation Street, as they joined forces for the very first time ever. But for Cain Dingle, it wasn’t the crash that put him in hospital. After a showdown with his son’s killer, John Sugden, Cain ended up shot. But what happened next broke all of our hearts. Cain wanted justice for Nate (Credit: ITV) What happened to Cain in Corriedale? Cain was just trying to drop Sarah and Jacob off at the airport, when they came across the crash. Immediately realising Mack and Charity’s car had veered off, they all rushed out onto the scene. While trying to help everyone on ground, Robert Sugden told Cain that John was on the loose. And naturally, Cain wasn’t going to sit around and do nothing. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers But as Robert and John were wrestling for he gun, it went off, shooting Cain. And in a weird way, the shot may have actually saved him. Later, in the hospital, the doctor was telling a patient that the injuries they have will heal. But that the tests showed there is a mass – which highly suggests cancer. And when we got to see who they were speaking to, we saw a heartbroken Cain, with Moira at his bedside. John always wanted to be the hero. And in his own way, his last move before Victoria killed him, was just that. As without being shot, Cain wouldn’t have known. However, with the emphasis on the conversation, it does suggest this is kicking off a huge storyline for Cain in 2026. Things are going to get tough to watch (Credit: ITV) Is Cain leaving Emmerdale? As of this moment, there is no confirmation that Cain Dingle will be leaving Emmerdale. The soap, nor actor Jeff Hordley have spoken about an exit. Although there has been previous speculation on his Emmerdale future. During the heartbreaking scene in Corriedale, Cain was told it doesn’t necessarily mean a “death sentence”. So, while there may be a hard fight on his hands, it seems Cain could still come out the other side. However, with numerous exits taking place across both Emmerdale and Corrie, it could also mark the beginning of the end for Cain. And the thought of that devastates all of us. One thing we do know, is no matter what direction this storyline goes in – or how long it lasts – Jeff Hordley will absolutely smash it. And we think we can be set for some more emotional scenes ahead. At least he has Moira by his side to help him through it. And hopefully 2026 doesn’t mark the end of Cain Dingle.
