They were all in the middle of big storylines Amy Barton Leyla Harding Share By Rebecca Sayers Jun 4 2025 By Rebecca Sayers Jun 4 2025 It’s been four months since Amy Barton and Leyla died in the limo ice crash in Emmerdale. And ever since then, they haven’t been given much focus. In an amazing week of episodes, Amy, Leyla Harding and Suzy, all tragically lost their lives. At the time, there was a lot of outrage that it was three women who were killed. But as the months go on, the backlash is increasing. Emmerdale took away three women who all had potential for bigger storylines. And both Leyla and Amy were show staples. But since their deaths, there have been numerous new men joining the show. And fans aren’t too happy about it. Amy and Matty were in the process of adoption (Credit: ITV) Why did Emmerdale kill Amy and Leyla? Emmerdale is having a really strong storyline time at the minute. But it will lose grip with fans if they keep getting rid of women, there won’t be any left in the village soon! When Amy and Leyla died, fans thought we were going to see the aftermath of their deaths in full effect. Months of mourning and potential storylines, especially from those who loved them. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers But we haven’t seen any of that. In reality, they occasionally get a mention. For Amy in particular, she used her last word to literally warn them that Nate’s body was in the lake – but Matty has never mentioned it. Now, Emmerdale fans have decided there was “no benefit” to their deaths, and actually did a disservice. Taking to a Reddit thread, one fan wrote: “Amy had so much potential with her and Matty’s adoption plans. Why the producers killed her off is beyond me. What benefit has her death had exactly?” Another fumed: “Benefit and purpose isn’t part of the show anymore. They’re only doing shocks. They haven’t caught on that the more they do it, the less impactful it is.” A third user believes that Dr Liam Cavanagh should have been the one to die in the limo crash, instead of the three women. Leyla first arrived in 2008 (Credit: ITV) Multiple men have joined the show since They argued: “It should have been Liam. He no longer serves any purpose and if it weren’t for his relationship with Chas, he would have passed his expiration date by now. “Honestly, they could have killed him off and had Chas give Aaron and John their wedding date without changing a thing. And we could have kept the much more interesting adoption storyline instead.” Another simply wrote: “Leyla dying was criminal.” Since they died, we have welcomed Kammy and Lewis to the village, with another new male villain appearing on screen soon. Not to mention the amount of male returnees that have happened over the last few months. While we’re all absolutely thrilled to have Robert, Joe and Ross back on our screens, there are some female returnees we would like to see too. In the time that we have gotten three new men, we have had one female announcement that The Bill star Jaye Griffiths is joining as farmer Celia. and with her storyline looking to be a feud with Moira, she’s already being pitted against another woman. It seems fans are fed up of the treatment of women on the show!
