And the moment was highly praised by fans who thought the soap had done the ladies proud. The scene was filmed in advance in the hope that England would beat Spain in the final. And when they did, Emmerdale quickly added it so it was in and ready for the morning episode to be released on ITVX. Producer Laura Shaw said of the addition: “With the nation getting behind the Lionesses, we knew the fictional characters in Emmerdale would’ve been doing just the same. Bob then came in and saw her, commenting he was surprised she was up and about after all the gin she drank! They thought it was a perfect tribute to a team who had overjoyed a nation! “Brilliant for putting that in, the Lionesses deserve to be shouted about,” said one in reaction. Another agreed: “Congratulations Emmerdale, was really good of you to include this in Monday’s episode.” “Loving how they brought up the Euros while the excitement is still fresh. Go Lionesses,” said a third. A fourth added: “This was fantastic. Well done Emmerdale!” However some were still smarting from all the disruption the football has caused their soap viewing. One commented: “I don’t care ! We have the soap moved for football now you’re sticking it in the show too. FFS not everyone is a football fan.” EastEnders got in on the action too! Over on the BBC, EastEnders didn’t miss out on the action either. In a scene between Eve Unwin and Peter Beale they also discussed the brilliance of the Lionesses.
