And while details have remained hush, fans have been speculating on what exactly that may be. Earlier in the year it was revealed by producer Laura Shaw that towards the end of the summer there would be a big story for Aaron and Mack – which will run into autumn. At the time she teased: “It’s a big week of episodes which is going to be life-changing for those two.” And she also hinted that Mack’s flashforward may finally happen. But now that it’s also been confirmed a new set has been built, let’s have a look at all the theories as to what is going to happen. The rivalry between John and Mack has been going on for a while (Credit: ITV) 1. The take-down of John Sugden While we would hope the ongoing John Sugden storyline would be over by the time this new storyline begins, some fans think it’s going to actually be the discovery of John’s secrets. And in doing so, both characters will put their lives at risk in order to bring him down. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Taking to a Reddit thread, one fan suspected: “I think Mack is going to suss John out and team up with Robert to bring him down and save Aaron…” When the story was first teased, Ryan Hawley’s return as Robert Sugden hadn’t been announced – so could he also be a part of it? We still have Mack’s flash-forward to see (Credit: ITV) 2. A huge explosion However some fans were caught on the fact Emmerdale has built a new set for the Mack and Aaron storyline. And they guessed that perhaps indicates that there will be an explosion. One penned: “Building a new set usually means burning it down. I’m guessing that (if the John story is still ongoing) John will deliberately put Aaron in danger to save him. Mack will accidentally stumble across the plan. John will give him chase to try to silence him. Rob will save Aaron, probably along with Mack. And they’ll be seriously burned in the aftermath.” Another fan agreed, adding: “Love this and agree with all of it – apart from the last sentence!!” Producer Laura Shaw did say life changing… and that sounds pretty impactful. Bromance to romance? (Credit: ITV) 3. Mack will die A theory that has been going on for quite a while is that Mack will be leaving the show. And many fans are hopeful this would happen so that the beloved Vanity can reunite. An Emmerdale fan wrote: “I genuinely fear for Mack and I love his character. Lawrence is such a natural actor but his social stories seem like he is always abroad or travelling the last couple of months. It makes me worry he has already left and been killed off. When he’s with Aaron, Nate, Cain, Moira, Matty and Robert his character is much more interesting in my opinion.” Another agreed: “Yeah I kind of get the impression that he is leaving and they’re trying to set up Vanessa and Charity again. I really like Mack though.” A third penned: “I completely agree. I love Mack – and I really hope he is not leaving.” Mack was mixed up in Ray’s business (Credit: ITV) 4. Drug storyline involving Ray When newcomer bad-boy Ray was introduced we knew he was going to have a connection to Mack. In his first week, it was revealed Ray was the drug dealer that Mack had offered Lewis’ weed to. And Mack clearly knew how dangerous Ray could be. While Ray still ended up with the drugs in the end, he still may have a grudge against Mack. And in his time of need, Mack may turn to his best friend – and the pair could get thrust into a very messy ordeal. Aaron and Mack’s flirty banter has been going on for years (Credit: ITV) 5. Shock affair in Emmerdale for Mack and Aaron? While Aaron and Mack have had flirty banter in their friendship for years, some fans still believe one day it will turn into more. Taking to X, one fan wrote: “What is brewing between Mack and Aaron? Like, genuinely? There is something there.” Another added: “Mack definitely secretly fancies Aaron…” However, with the return of Robert, this theory doesn’t really have much to go on. As let’s face it, everyone wants Robron to be reunited. Is it something else? (Credit: ITV) 6. Something else entirely… It may well be that we just have to wait and see what happens. While fans have their own theories, there is no guarantee the soap will go down any of those routes. Perhaps it’s something nobody has yet thought of… Either way, we know it’s going to be life-changing.
