But one of the things he spoke about potentially doing in the future is spin-offs. And as he confirmed it was something they were looking into behind-the-scenes, it immediately got Emmerdale fans theorising and thinking. There are quite a lot of characters and storylines that intertwine in the Emmerdale village, but a short-form spin off isn’t completely impossible. And fans already have a bunch of ideas on what characters they would love to see. Iain spoke on the This Is Media City podcast (Credit: YouTube) Iain MacLeod teases Emmerdale spin offs Last week, Iain spoke on the This Is Media City podcast, where he revealed future plans to upgrade the filming techniques used in soaps. But he also admitted they are now exploring the possibility of doing short-form spin-offs, which would follow specific characters. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers He explained: “We’re talking about things like micro-dramas, vertical dramas. Is there any other parallel IP we can generate with a different set of characters that feeds into and out of the main show? That, will, we hope, engage a slightly younger audience and maybe drive those younger viewers into the main soaps. “We are exploring all kinds of options with that. The other one is, can we boil our 23-minute episode down into a micro-drama? That’s proving more difficult, because a lot goes on in a soap!” So, while it seems the spin-offs will be made for digital online content, there are still quite a lot of possible characters they could use.Don't miss a single story! Let’s have a look at the biggest fan hopes for the spin-offs. Fans want more Robron (Credit: ITV) 1. Robron Number one was of course the adored Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle. Fans have been hooked on them ever since they started their relationship over ten years ago. But now – after six years apart – Robron are back together. And it seems fans are desperate to see more of them. Ever since their surprise engagement during Corriedale, neither of them have really been on screen. So, if any spin-offs are happening, fans immediately want it to include them. One penned on X: “The only spin-off I want is a Robron spin-off with quality writing. I said what I said.” Another agreed: “Okay if they’re giving us micro-drama spin-offs, I want to see Robert and Aaron.” Bring Kev back (Credit: ITV) 2. Kev Another popular choice was to explore the character of Kev. Fans immediately wanted him to return as soon as he left earlier this year. But it seems if they can’t have him on the main show then fans would settle for an Emmerdale spin-off that shows us his life away from the village. One fan penned on Reddit: “I would love one on Kev. If not, I want him back.” Another agreed: “The only one I can see working at the moment is a spin-off based on Kev. In order for these to work it will need to be about a popular character. But then, you sort of want to keep the important storylines within the show.” Could the teens bring a younger audience? (Credit: ITV) 3. The Emmerdale teens On the same Reddit thread, users discussed their own theories and ideas. One popular one was to use the short-format spin-offs for the younger Emmerdale characters, since they’re hoping to gain a younger audience. One commented: “I can see them using mostly the younger cast for it. Maybe all of the teen characters who are underused on the main show. It could be a way to give them some focus.” Another agreed: “From the way he talks about it on the podcast it seems like he means digital short spin-offs. I’m not sure it would add much with the regulars on the main show. But since they want to draw in younger viewers, characters like Sarah and Dylan would probably work best in the focus.” Paddy and Marlon have had a spin-off previously (Credit: ITV) 4. Paddy and Marlon A few fans remember the iconic digital spin-off from 2011, Paddy & Marlon’s Big Night In. The 92-minute special became quite the statement, and is still talked about to this day. So, naturally, when spin-offs were mentioned, a lot of the Emmerdale fans were hoping it was something like that. Or even a sequel. One penned: “Fun things like the Paddy and Marlon spin-off they made years ago would be good to see. Perhaps another with them. Or storylines about characters going on holiday together could be good in my opinion.” Fans want Meena back (Credit: ITV / YouTube) 5. Meena One fan suggested it would be a good way to explore the aftermath of Meena’s prison sentence. They penned: “This would have been good for Meena.” And their suggestion was backed up by a few comments on X, where users proposed Meena as a potential spin-off idea. Ever since she went to prison, Emmerdale fans have been desperate for her return. So, now with potential short-form Emmerdale spin-offs in the works, could we finally see Meena from behind bars?
