Adam Thomas, who played the iconic Adam Barton, left the show back in 2018, after nine years on the show. Viewers were heartbroken to say goodbye to Adam, as the Barton boy took the blame for Emma’s death and went on the run. Over the years, Adam was a fan-favourite character, and was involved in some huge storylines. And now, actor Adam Thomas has teased his return to the show. Adam was on Emmerdale for nine years (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock) Who was Adam Barton in Emmerdale First appearing on our screens way back in 2009, Adam arrived alongside the rest of the Barton family. He very quickly became best friends with Aaron Dingle, which remained that way throughout his entire run on the show. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Over the years, Adam discovered his dad wasn’t actually who he thought he was, and instead was actually his uncle James. And it was that storyline which marked the beginning of the end. Adam’s mum, Moira Barton, ended up killing Emma in a fit of rage, as Emma taunted her about her daughter Holly’s death. But not wanting his mum to go to prison, Adam took the blame. And in true Emmerdale fashion, he went on the run. He hasn’t been seen since, but he is mentioned quite frequently. Recently, Ross discovered there was another Barton sibling, Lewis. And it didn’t take long before he discovered the truth about Emma’s death, and once again, Adam was mentioned. Adam Thomas has teased his return (Credit: ITV) Adam teases a return Today (June 27), Adam Thomas posted on Instagram a photo of him smiling beside the Emmerdale street sign. In the caption, he declared: “I’m BACK!!!” Adam didn’t give any more information, but fans were very quickly sent into frenzy, wondering if we are finally getting the Barton boy back on our screens. And with all the recent returnees, it would be another iconic one added to the list. One fan pleaded: “I really hope this is true as you were my favourite Barton ever!!!” Another added: “Is this true? Please be true!” “Don’t be lying to us, Adam. We have waited seven years. This better be true.” Whether Adam Thomas is announcing his return to the soap, or that he is just visiting the set is unknown. But with the current storylines, an Adam return wouldn’t be too surprising. Just last night (June 26) his ex-wife Victoria was talking about how lonely she has been in the village. There is also the fact his best friend is currently married to a murderer. And with Lewis’ recent arrival causing Emma’s death to come back up, the opportunities for an Emmrdale return for Adam Thomas are endless.
