It was recently revealed that a big story is being planned for Bear Wolf in Emmerdale, but what exactly is wrong with him?

Earlier this month, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw teased future storylines. One of which will involve Bear. “He’s going off screen for a little while,” she said. “He’ll go missing and when he comes back what you’ll see is a very different Bear in a very different situation.”

Laura added: “We’re all going to be watching going: ‘what the hell has happened here?'”

Scenes this week saw Bear lash out at son Paddy. Believing Mandy and Paddy wanted him out of the house, Bear had a go at them before fleeing the house.

They managed to track him down and put him straight, before Bear apologised for getting the wrong end of the stick. He shared that he had been scared about losing his little family.

Could this out of character moment have something to do with Bear’s big storyline? Here we take a look at the theories on what is wrong with Bear Wolf.

Does Bear have dementia?

EastEnders and Coronation Street are currently running dementia stories, with Nigel Bates and Debbie Webster being diagnosed with the illness. Will Emmerdale follow suit?

Some fans think so. “He’s prob got dementia like other soaps,” wrote one fan. While another added: “He will have dementia I reckon.”

Emmerdale previously covered dementia 10 years ago when Ashley Thomas was diagnosed with the condition before he passed away in 2017.

Has Bear met somebody?

Over on X, fans have commented on Bear not having been around for a little while and his appearance being different.

“Bear looks great. Didn’t recognise him,” wrote one fan. While another said: “As well as getting slimmer by the episode, Bear is also sounding posher by the minute.”

Could he be making an effort for a mystery person who isn’t reciprocating his feelings?

Is Bear lonely in Emmerdale?

Bear has suffered from loneliness before, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see those feelings resurface.

Bear was devastated when he thought Paddy and Mandy Dingle wanted him out of the home. Perhaps the fear of having to live alone was too much for him.

Fans have also speculated if this might be the case, with one writing: “Think Bear is lonely.”

Is Bear having money troubles?

When he thought Mandy and Paddy were packing his bags, he became aggressive and scared

A reason for Bear’s over the top reaction could be because he can’t afford to move out.

There are endless storylines that can stem from this – gambling problem or conned out of money being the most obvious

Does Bear have cancer in Emmerdale?

Is Bear acting out because he is too scared to tell his family he has cancer. Fans certainly think so.

“I reckon he’s got some sort of cancer and is hiding it,” wrote one fan on Facebook. A second fan added: “I think prostate cancer maybe?”

Perhaps the disappearing act is so he can seek treatment without his family’s knowledge.
