As John threatens Robert, 7 reasons why the returning Sugden shouldn’t be messed with

John should be the one to watch out

If history is anything to go by, Robert Sugden is not a man to be messed with in Emmerdale. So while John Sugden may have threatened him, maybe he should learn a bit more about who he is dealing with.

Robert has such a soft side, where he will always put those he loves first, no matter what. However, he has also always had a bad boy side to him – and it’s one of the things everyone adores.

So when his half-brother John Sudgen threatened him last night (June 17), Robert was left reeling. But in reality, John should be careful, because he clearly doesn’t know what Robert is capable of. So let’s have a reminder.

1. Rivalry with Andy throughout Robert’s Emmerdale history

Even before Ryan Hawley took on the Emmerdale role, Robert has a history of a rivalry with his brother, Andy.

Things just kept getting more and more extreme though, and the brothers found themselves against each other quite a lot of times.

Throughout the feud, there were fights, Robert set fire to Andy Sugden and Katie’s camper-van. And let’s not forget the wedding ring engravings.

Their feud literally lasted on and off until Andy’s departure, when they put everything behind them and Robert helped him flee the country.

But the many years spent hating each other should show John that Robert isn’t afraid of playing the long game.

2. Katie’s death

Despite an initial affair and relationship, Robert and Katie Sugden hated each other in the end. And ultimately Robert was responsible for her death, as he pushed her and she fell through the floorboards at Wylie’s farm.

At the time, Robert was desperate to hide his and Aaron’s affair. And so the pair cleaned the place up and removed any evidence that they had been there.

Eventually, Andy did discover the truth, but Robert never actually faced any prison time for it. But it shows he’s willing to do whatever is needed.

3. Robert history in Emmerdale: numerous affairs

When Robert wants something, he gets it. And that works exactly in his romantic life too.

Over the years he has cheated on countless partners. However, everyone is grateful for the Robert and Aaron affair since it brought us our beloved Robron.

But even their relationship wasn’t without a hitch. When Aaron was locked up, Robert slept with Rebecca behind his back – and they ultimately had a son together.

4. Schemes against the White’s

When Robert was married to Chrissie – and when he wasn’t – he wanted to take the White family down to get Home Farm to himself.

He staged break-in’s, took Lachlan hostage, and even pretended to be in love with Lawrence. But he really stopped at nothing to get what he wanted.

In the end all of the White’s except for Lachlan have died.

5. Attacking Paddy and holding Aaron hostage

When Paddy threatened to tell Chrissie about his and Aaron’s affair, Robert was determined to stop him.

He spotted that Paddy had fallen into a grain pit at Butler’s Farm and turned the auger on, watching it fill. In the last minute, he tried to save him but Andy got there first.

Thankfully, Paddy was okay. But he knew someone was behind it, and it wasn’t long before Robert was the main suspect.

When he confronted him about it, Robert threatened to kill little Leo. Eventually Paddy told Aaron.

This led to Aaron taking Robert to a lodge getaway to get him on tape confessing to Katie’s death. But they begin fighting and Robert realised what was happening.

He held Aaron hostage, tied to the radiator, and held a gun to his head. But Paddy arrived as he was about to pull the trigger, and got shot in the arm.

6. Constant feuds for Robert in Emmerdale

It’s actually rare for Robert to have a friend in the village. Over the years, he has been embroiled in numerous feuds with so many different villagers.

There was his feud with Ross Barton, to Joe Tate and the White’s to name a few. And every time, Robert somehow always comes out on top.

He’s also not opposed to kidnapping and threatening kids to get his way.

7. Robert history in Emmerdale: Killing Lee

Let’s not forget that Robert is literally in prison for the murder of Lee. So that in itself should show John what he is capable of.

And again, he attacked Lee to look out for Victoria – someone he loves. He was willing to spend the rest of his life behind bars as long as his sister was safe.

So, while John may have threatened him, ultimately judging by his history, Robert will do whatever it takes to make sure his loved ones are safe.
