John Sugden makes final Emmerdale 'appearance' as ashes scene hailed 'iconic'

John is gone for good - we hope!

In scenes that have been hailed ‘iconic’ and ‘perfect’ John Sugden makes his last ‘appearance’ in Emmerdale today. Thank goodness for that.

While we know in Emmerdale you’re never really dead until, well, you’re just never definitely dead these days, this seemed like a pretty final act for John when his ashes arrived back in the village.

*WARNING: Spoilers for today’s Emmerdale episode contained in the below article. It will air on ITV on Thursday February 12 at 8pm, but is already available to watch on ITVX and YouTube.

John Sugden makes his final journey in Emmerdale

After a year of terror, John Sugden was finally killed in Corriedale by his sister Victoria. She has needlessly covered the act of self-defence up and even gone so far as to frame Moira for people trafficking and murder to protect her secret.

Unable to live with herself after then selling their share of the farm to the Tates, Victoria decided to leave for Portugal.

But as she is preparing to go, Aaron takes delivery of John’s ashes. He is back!

Unsure what to do with them, Robert and Aaron decide to go for a drink in the pub – with the ashes! Aaron then gets annoyed with Robert’s pity party and stomps off, leaving Robert alone with his half-brother.

Tracy then arrives in the pub and spots the ashes – and decides she knows exactly what to do about them!

The next minute, Tracy and Robert are squeezed into a toilet cubicle about to flush them away. Robert has second thoughts, but Tracy begs him to let her do it. And actually doesn’t wait for a response before pouring them in and flushing.

Aaron and Victoria arrive just as the chain is pulled and are horrified at what Tracy and Robert have done. Oops.

Fans think it is an ‘iconic’ end for John

But those who have already watched the episode early on ITVX are beyond thrilled with John’s last scenes. They think it couldn’t have been more perfect, with many shocked (in a good way) that they actually went through with flushing them!

“THEY FLUSHED JOHN DOWN THE TOILET,” one cried on social media, astounded.

Another said: “Tracy flushing the ashes what an icon.”

“I’m crying this is so [bleep] funny he actually got flushed down the toilet. I thought somebody would have stopped it but he’s deadass just floating around the toilet ecosystem!” added a third.

A fourth commented: “I’m sorry but Aaron and Robert bringing the ASHES of their dead ex-husband/half-brother to the PUB and just placing it on the table and bickering like an old married couple over it (which is basically what they are) is one of the funniest things they’ve ever done.”

A fifth called it “perfect”: “Okay, wait, I’ll give Emmerdale this. I think they basically fumbled the John aftermath not just once but twice BUT his ashes getting flushed down the toilet was pretty perfect.”

“HOWLING. They are trying to flush John’s ashes down the toilet to get closure I LOVE THE EVILNESS,” cackled one more.

It was a pretty perfect send-off, right? And really, all that he deserves!
