Robert and Aaron reunion scene leaves Emmerdale fans thoroughly disappointed: 'I'm concerned'

Fears the couple will not reunite and John will never be caught

The much longed for and hyped up ‘reunion’ moment between Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale has left fans disappointed and worried for the couple’s future.

Just as we were promised hope for them to get back together – and get rid of John Sugden, the scene in question was, well, a bit of a damp squib, really.

What happened between Aaron and Robert during their promised reunion in Emmerdale?

Aaron was not at all forgiving of Robert in Monday night’s episode (August 4) after he had attacked John last week. But it was John (who is convinced he’s won the war) who tried to make him see that Robert is unwell and needs help.

However, John is clearly still playing Robert as he continued to watch the video of Robert attacking him repeatedly (a bit obsessive, John). But Aaron eventually agreed to go easy on Robert.

Robert and Aaron then bumped into each other in the shop and Robert bought him a coffee so they could clear the air. He promised Aaron nothing like that will ever happen again. He also confessed his struggles since coming out of prison.

When Robert told Aaron he was thinking of leaving, Aaron tried to appear unfazed, but it was clear it hit him hard. As they shared a joke and a smile, Aaron quickly made his excuses to leave.

But he stopped to tell Robert that his roots are in Emmerdale – and that people do care about him. Robert was left with a flicker of hope that there is a future for them.

Fans disappointed

Despite plenty of viewers assuming this was heading towards another Robron affair, others were not so happy with the scene.

Writing on Reddit, one declared: “That was disappointing tbh, hardly anything like the gamechanger moment I had hoped for. Aaron being a snide [bleep] despite Robert clearly being in crisis.

“He redeemed himself a bit at the end, but it was lukewarm and hardly the great hopeful moment advertised. It all fell flat to me.”

Another added they were now “concerned” about what was to come: “I was expecting a bit MORE,” they wrote. “I’m concerned because Robert also sounded serious about leaving them alone. I don’t want him to give up on exposing John for the dangerous person HE KNOWS he is!! So, now we are going to have months still of arrogant John prancing around the village?!”

Although disappointed, someone else found a plus: “The only positive was the bigger the rift with Aaron and Robert, the sweeter it will be when Aaron suddenly awakens from the spell John’s put him under!”

However another assured fans it was the right amount of warmth: “Not sure what you expected when Aaron wanted him dead last week. This was warmer than I expected.”
