Robert sexually assaulted in prison, worry Emmerdale fans

Robert suffered behind bars

Fans of Emmerdale have feared that Robert Sugden may have been abused in prison following signs of PTSD since his release last week. On Friday night’s episode, Robert lashed out as he slept – accidentally hurting Victoria.

Robert returned to the village last week, having been released (again) after his second stint behind bars. Showing off a gruesome-looking shiner, it was clear he’d been through a lot while inside – although he’s yet to reveal the extent of his trauma.

Robert’s trauma became even more evident last week as he took a nap after spending the day looking for work. Back home, he dozed off on the sofa – only to be woken by Victoria as he suffered a nightmare.

Victoria was hurt as Robert lashed our on Emmerdale this week

When Victoria returned home, she found Robert asleep on the sofa. Ignoring the fact he could clearly do with a good rest, she set about getting in the party mood – popping open a bottle of bubbly while he slept.

Lashing out when she smacked him on the leg, Robert awoke with a start – accidentally slapping his sister. “I didn’t realise it was you!” he exclaimed, as he tried to make things right, but the damage had been done.

Robert’s reaction has led fans to worry about what he might have experienced while behind bars.

Emmerdale fans worry Robert was abused in prison

Sharing their thoughts on X, a number of viewers shared their theories as to what might have happened to Robert to cause such a reaction.

“Does anyone else think Robert may have been raped in prison?” asked one fan.

“I’d love to know what’s going on with Robert too. Was he abused in prison?” said another.

“I think we’ve only scratched the surface of the trauma Robert endured in prison.. Protect this man at all costs!” wrote a third.

Is Robert hurting even more than he’s letting on? And, if so, can he count on Aaron – who also suffered during his time in prison – to listen?
