Emmerdale fans beg soap to end storyline: 'Enough is enough' Fans are losing interest John Sugden Share By Tamzin Meyer Jul 24 2025 By Tamzin Meyer Jul 24 2025 Emmerdale fans are thoroughly fed-up with the current John Sugden storyline, claiming it needs to end now. But with fears it will continue to run until Christmas, just how much longer will this go on? With John falling apart and struggling to keep on top of his lies, every time we think he’s about to get caught out, he manages to get back on top. But, just how long could John get away with things for? Emmerdale fans have had enough of John (Credit: ITV) Exclusive Emmerdale poll declares ‘enough is enough’ Emmerdale Insider ran a poll among fans asking if they want John’s storyline to end now. Overwhelmingly they all voted yes! A whooping 91 percent of fans declared: “This has gone on too long, enough is enough.” article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Only nine percent felt having him evade capture constantly kept things more interesting. John’s guilty secret is weighing heavily on him (Credit: ITV) Emmerdale fans fear John won’t be caught until Christmas The vote comes after fans shared their fears this would run on and on. John’s still going under the villagers’ radars at the moment, getting away with his crimes. Well, everyone except for Robert Sugden that is. After John framed Owen Michaels for Nate’s death he thought it would give everyone closure and the investigation would all go away. But Robert isn’t buying it. He’s found out a few thinks – like John visiting Owen’s house before his death and is set to confront Owen’s brother Steve on Thursday (July 24). Steve reveals there’s no way Owen could have killed Nate. He has a rock solid albi. So will Robert put two and two together and FINALLY bring John down? “SURELY we’re coming to an end of this John storyline? They must realise how boring it is?” asked one fed-up fan on social media. Another agreed: “Man when will John get found out I really can’t stand watching Emmerdale right now. The sooner he gets found out the better, man this storyline has gone on far too long now.” Others are very worried that he might not go exposed until Christmas. Taking to Reddit, one fan complained: “It’s gone on for too long and needs to come to a conclusion really soon. It’s getting a bit grating that the village don’t suspect a single thing. “But this is going to carry on until Christmas, isn’t it?” Another fan replied: “Oh man, I’m with you, while another said that it ‘wouldn’t surprise them if it lasted until Christmas.’ Robert is suspicious of his half-brother (Credit: ITV) All we know about when John could be exposed Even after his shifty behaviour at Nate’s funeral and his almost confession, John still seems to be evading any sort of accusations. He couldn’t contain himself during the eulogy and almost blurted out what he had done. But instead he called for peace and everyone to come together instead of being at war. Sigh. He then set about framing Owen. But as we’ve seen Robert knows something is up with that. In a recent interview, actor Oliver Farnworth revealed that his contract runs out in August… He said: “I knew the length of the initial contract. Because I had a year contract I was drip fed certain things.” Oliver joined the soap as John in August 2024. He only has a year long contract, meaning his final scenes could air this summer. Unless, his contract was extended… Paddy has no idea he’s now close to catching John out (Credit: ITV) More suspicions raised over John Elsewhere, Paddy has been revealed as the volunteer counselling John online. They both don’t know the other’s identity – yet. But it’s another hint the end must be nigh. We had some hope when Tracy and Cain teamed up to find out exactly who killed Nate. Amy Walsh recently teased that John was at the top of their list of suspects… Speaking to the Mirror, Amy said: “Tracy and Cain do a little list together of who it could it be. “We have ruled out some people we know.” When the topic of John came up, Amy then added: “That was left on a bit of a cliffhanger actually. He’s the next name on the list…” But then DS Walsh arrived with news of Owen’s ‘confession’ and the list was forgotten. But will it be remembered when Owen’s innocence is proven by Robert? It’s not long before Robert heads to the police station with the information he’s discovered. Is this finally when John will be exposed as the killer he is? Read more: Who’s leaving Emmerdale?
