Robert Sugden spent six years behind bars for killing rapist Lee Posner, before being released earlier this year. Upon his release, he set about trying to win Aaron Dingle back. But that relationship hit a rather large speed bump when it was revealed Robert had married another man in prison. Wednesday’s special standalone episode will explore Robert’s time in prison and show how he and Kev came to be married. Actor Ryan Hawley has also teased that the episode will feature a ‘nice little twist.’ Robert decides to be honest with Aaron (Credit: ITV) Robert opens up about prison life in Emmerdale spoilers During Tuesday’s episode (November 11), which has already aired on ITVX, Robert told Aaron that he hadn’t been totally honest with him. On last night, we travel back in time as Robert reveals what went down during his six years in prison. Robert has hinted about how he found prison life difficult, sharing that Kev came to his rescue. But now we see the extent of the torment he suffered via a string of flashback scenes. The truth about how Robert met Kev is revealed (Credit: ITV) Ryan Hawley teases ‘little twist’ in flashback episode Speaking about the episode on last night , Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert, said: “The flashback begins around five years ago. We go through different time periods right up until May of this year, just before Robert is let out and interrupts Aaron and John’s wedding.” He then teased a twist, revealing: “There’s one particularly nice little twist. Neither me nor Chris knew about it until we read the script. Something happened in prison that is massively pivotal. No one finds out about it until it’s revealed here. “At first I thought it might be more interesting to leave Robert’s prison past to the imagination,” Ryan added. “But it was definitely worth doing because it explains a lot about Robert and Kev’s relationship.
