But his erratic behaviour is a cause of concern for Victoria, who urges her brother to face his demons. Can Robert make peace with the past before it ruins his future? Robert has returned to try and win Aaron back (Credit: ITV) Robert is a free man in Emmerdale spoilers Emmerdale fans were left rejoicing at the announcement that Robert Sugden is back for good. Aaron’s ex, and one half of the soap’s most iconic couple, has spent the last six years in prison for the murder of Victoria’s rapist, Lee Posner. Robert was sentenced to life back in 2019 and wasn’t expected to be released for at least another decade. But during his triumphant return at Aaron and John’s wedding, Rob revealed new evidence has come to light that puts him in the clear. Police originally believed that Lee had died as a result of receiving a single punch from Robert. However, he sustained a second hit from his brother Luke, which may have been the real cause of death. Whatever the case, Robert is now a free man, albeit one on bail. He’s desperate to win back soulmate Aaron, and prove that John is a wrong’un. John tried to warn Robert off, but his threats have made Robert realise he’s hiding something. Viewers know all about John’s crimes, but Aaron remains blissfully unaware of what kind of a man he’s married. Robert is now intent on unearthing John’s secrets and destroying him, while Victoria remains stuck in the middle of her brothers. She’s concerned this isn’t the right path for Robert to be on, given he’s just been released from jail. She can see that prison has had a damaging effect on him, particularly the recent assault he suffered at the hands of his fellow inmates. While Robert may come across like he doesn’t care, Victoria knows better. She warns her brother that he must face up to the trauma he suffered if he’s to move forward, otherwise he may end up back behind bars. Will Robert take Victoria’s advice on board?
