A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6: What time it's out and last week's recap before the finale

Dunk and Egg's story is almost over... for now
Cameron Frew

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 will bring the first season of the Game of Thrones spin-off to a close – so make sure you know what time the finale drops and what happened last week.

“Four pages for Ser Duncan the Tall! He must have been quite the man,” Joffrey said in the original series.

If A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has proven anything, it’s that Joffrey was right. He’s one of George R.R. Martin’s greatest heroes, and even though season 1 is almost over, his story is just beginning.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 is a must-watch telly event, so wherever you are in the world, this is the time you should tune in.

Is episode 6 really the final episode?

Yes, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 is ending with episode 6.

You probably share the same opinion as countless other fans: as great as the show is, the episodes are too short, and there’s not enough of it.

That’s a nice problem for the series to have – it means people love it! But, as showrunner Ira Parker explained to GQ, its runtimes and episode length made sense for the book they were adapting (Martin’s The Hedge Knight).

“Even before going to George, we knew that’s what it could be. HBO had offered that up already… one of his big concerns with this being a faithful adaptation is that it just does not stretch out to that level,” Parker said.

“We weren’t stretching. We weren’t doing any strange side quests with Dunk and Egg. We wrote it as if George had written a three-hundred-page book.”

What happened at the end of episode 5?

Episode 5 focused solely on the trial of seven, with Dunk barely surviving the bout – but, by the end, Aerion Targaryen yielded.

The trial didn’t start well for Dunk, who was impaled by a lance and knocked off his horse by Aerion’s flail. This teed up a flashback to Dunk’s youth, revealing his tragic friendship with Rafe and how he met Ser Arlan of Pennytree.

As the episode moved back to the present, Dunk took a beating – to the point he was almost declared dead! However, the words of Ser Arlan – “Get up!” – got him back on his feet, and with his senses fuzzy and numbed, he pummelled Aerion so much that he withdrew his accusation.

Sadly, the trial wasn’t victimless. Ser Humfrey Hardyn and Beesbury died, but worst of all, the episode ended with Baelor Targaryen’s death.

Maekar struck Baelor’s head with his mace during the trial, causing his helmet to cave in to his skull. When it was removed, he died almost instantly.
