A big warning for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms fans before episode 6

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ends next week

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 will bring Dunk and Egg’s first chapter to a close – and one thing about it will definitely leave fans annoyed.

Earlier in the season, Baelor asked Ser Duncan the Tall, “How good a knight are you?” The answer is clear after episode 5; no wonder he got four pages to himself in the Book of Brothers.

The trial of seven may be over, but Dunk and Egg’s story is far from over. The finale will need to deal with the fallout, and a question remains: what will happen to them next?

Thankfully, there isn’t too long to wait until A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6. However, be warned: it’s already an example of one of the series’ most common complaints.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 runtime will make fans mad

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 is one of the shortest episodes in the whole series.

Without adverts, it’s 31 minutes long. That means it’s tied for the shortest instalment alongside episode 3, ‘The Squire’.

Ultimately, it’s a nice criticism for the show to get. Yes, loads of fans resent how little time we get to spend with Dunk and Egg each week – but that’s because they’ve been enjoying it so much!

For example, as one viewer posted on X, “I’m loving these characters. I only hate how short the episodes are.”

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms being only 30 mins long per episode should be a crime. I’ve loved the first three episodes more than the whole two seasons of House of the Dragon,” another wrote.

Plus, as showrunner Ira Parker has explained, its bite-sized episodes (compared to Game of Thrones’ usual hour-long format) suit this adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s books.

“We weren’t stretching, we weren’t doing any strange side quests with Dunk and Egg. We wrote it as if George had written a 300-page book,” he told GQ.

“George R. R. Martin obviously talked about doing this as a movie, more appropriately, and I see why he said that, because that’s about how much you have just straight from beginning to end. So we got about double that. You know, a little bit of him, a little bit of us.”

What happened at the end of episode 5?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 5 ended with the death of a major character: Baelor ‘Breakspear’ Targaryen.

Ser Humfrey Hardyng and Ser Humfrey Beesbury died too, but they were killed the first charge.

An extended flashback revealed Dunk’s early days in Flea Bottom, his doomed friend Rafe, and how he met Ser Arlan. Once we returned to the trial in the present day, Dunk barely defended himself against Aerion Targaryen.

Yet, despite multiple stab wounds and his head being clattered by a mace, he managed to overpower Aerion. The Targaryen prince yielded and officially withdrew his accusation, bringing the trial to an end.

As Raymun and Steely Pate took him off the field, Baelor stepped in to see if he was okay. Dunk offered himself to Baelor, who told the knight, “We need good men.”

However, when Baelor asked Raymun and Steely Pate to help him remove his helm, the grotesque impact of his injuries became unavoidable. A mace hit (from his brother, Maekar) caused the back of his head to cave in.

The episode ended with him collapsing and dying in Dunk’s arms. He was the nicest and most noble Targaryen we’ve ever seen in Game of Thrones… and he’s gone.

When is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 out?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 will air at its usual time (3am and 9pm UK time) on Monday, February 23.

Don’t expect it to drop early, either. Episode 4’s release on streaming before its TV broadcast was a one-off to avoid a clash with the Super Bowl.
