Why there’s no A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 7 after 'emotional' ending
We still have good news for Game of Thrones fans...
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has finally set Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg off on a new adventure – but if you’re hoping for episode 7, prepare to be disappointed.
Nobody could have predicted A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ success. Its ratings have been strong, but it’s produced some of the most widely lauded episodes in the Game of Thrones franchise since the original series’ highest peaks.
Season 2 is already in the works, with filming beginning in December 2025. It’s planned to be an annual release – unlike House of the Dragon, which has taken two-year gaps.
Alas, if you’re already feeling bereft after the end of episode 6, we’ll be waiting a little while for Dunk and Egg’s next chapter.

Is there A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 7?
No, episode 7 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will never be released – because it doesn’t exist!
The first season ended with episode 6, and there won’t be any other new episodes until season 2 next year.
Season 1 covered the events of George R.R. Martin’s first Dunk and Egg novella, The Hedge Knight. It ends in almost exactly the same way, so there isn’t any more story to tell… for now.

That doesn’t mean you need to be happy about it, though.
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is genuinely almost as good as peak Game of Thrones… I can’t believe we only get 6 short episodes in this season,” one fan wrote on X.
“Bro it is a CRIME that the Knight of The Seven Kingdoms episodes are SO SHORT,” another posted. “Only six episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is criminal,” a third added.

Why is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms so short?
It’s simple: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms only has six, 30-minute-ish episodes because it’s what the story demands.
Showrunner Ira Parker explained to The Hollywood Reporter: “The biggest thing that was very helpful was learning the show didn’t have to be 10 episodes, one hour each. Being able to do six episodes, anywhere between 30 or 40 minutes, was perfect for us.
“It meant we didn’t have to stretch the story. It meant that we could do a faithful adaptation of this – which obviously is very much what George wanted, and what I was very keen to deliver one because I’m a big fan of these novellas.”
Parker was wary of doing anything that felt “tangential”.
“It feels like it’s filling out these novellas in a way that hopefully George would have done if he had just written them as novels instead of 80-page nuggets.”
