Justice for Jo!
Helen Fear

After the Flood series 2 tore out our hearts, trampled them into the ground, and left us sobbing in a heaving mess of snot and tears – and we need a series 3 to get justice for Jo.

Following the shocking bombshells of series 1 in 2024, the brilliant crime drama returned this year with another gripping storyline. We’d argue the episodes were even more thrilling, and heartbreaking, than the first.

So whether you binged the lot on ITVX, or waited patiently week by week, here’s everything we know about a possible series 3 of After the Flood.

***Warning: spoilers from After the Flood series 2 ahead***

Is there a series 3 of After the Flood?

ITV has not yet confirmed if there’ll be a series 3 of After the Flood. But we’d be very surprised if there isn’t some good news incoming. And a spokesperson told us “no news on a S3 just yet” which surely means there WILL be an update at some point in the future.

The second series of the crime drama was even better than the first, so we can only hope that a third run would be elevated once again.

Viewers have embraced Sophie Rundle’s character DC Joanna Marshall wholeheartedly. We need to know how she gets on following the crushing death of her husband Pat. Estranged or not, they were a superb team. Viewers will also want to see Phil Mackie rotting in jail after his arrest. But will he somehow pull strings to get himself off the hook? And was everyone involved in his corruption exposed?

The ending of series 2 left us with plenty of loose threads. Would Mackie be thrown in jail? And if Jo would survive another day in the police force. Although, we see a future for Jo in the anti-corruption unit alongside DS Sam Bradley…

We’ll update you with more news when we get it.

Fans beg for a series 3 of After the Flood

Unsurprisingly, ITV viewers have demanded a series 3 of the exceptional crime drama with similarities to Happy Valley, and Line of Duty.

One fan gushed: “I’m going to need a third series of #AftertheFlood effective immediately! Sophie Rundle, Jill Halfpenny, Lorraine Ashbourne, Matt Stokoe, Nicholas Gleaves… Maxine Alderton – one of the best scriptwriters in the game! Take a bow!!! Brilliant series.”

Another added: “Binged #AftertheFlood season 1 and 2 @ITVX. Loved it. Wonders if there will be a 3rd.”

A third said: “Okay, I just finished S2 of #AftertheFlood and I am not gonna tweet anything about it because the last two episodes have so much going on that will spoil it. But there are twists and turns which I didn’t see coming. You’ll be glad of some and not of others. Please I need a series 3.”

“OMG, we splurged watched #AftertheFlood. I hope there’s another series. And #lorraineashbourne and #sophierundel were absolutely brilliant…” said another.

“Just finished it, it was brilliant. Need a third series now please #aftertheflood,” said another, while one more typed: “What an ending #AftertheFlood series 2. Hopefully there will be a third series.”

‘Season 3 works because Mick has built a community of people’

Sophie Rundle, who leads the cast as DC Joanna Marshall, has shared her thoughts on a series 3 of After the Flood with the Radio Times.

She said: “I think season 3 works because Mick Ford and the other writers have built a community of people. That’s the key to making it feel alive. There are always stories to tell when it feels like a real group of dynamic people. And I do think it’s sort of left – you always want to see what happens next.”

She added: “If the appetite’s there, then great.”
