Seven Dials filming locations: Netflix's new Agatha Christie series is hiding a Bridgerton connection in plain sight

From Bath and Bristol to Spain, this is everywhere Seven Dials was filmed

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials transports viewers to 1920s England for a cosy, twisty murder mystery – and you’ve definitely seen its filming locations before.

Forget Poirot and Miss Marple. This time, we’re following ‘Bundle’ Brent (played by Mia McKenna-Bruce), a young, inquisitive sleuth who sets out to uncover the truth behind her friend’s death after he’s found dead on her country estate.

If you’ve already binged all three parts of the Broadchurch creator’s new series, make sure you dive into our breakdown of the Seven Dials ending.

The show hops around a little bit, with Bundle journeying to London and some scenes set abroad. So, here’s where it was all filmed.

Where is Seven Dials set?

Seven Dials is mostly set around two locations: the Chimneys (where Bundle stays) and Wyvern Abbey, an estate that features in the back half of the series.

While shot in real locations, they are fictional estates straight from Christie’s novels. The question is, where exactly are they in the world of her books?

We know both estates are seven miles apart, and they’re believed to be not too far outside of London. That’s about it, leaving their exact placement up for speculation.

On the author’s community archive, one reader cited Superintendent Battle (played by Martin Freeman in the Netflix series), who mentioned “reconstruction going on, especially in the Near East” after the First World War.

That could mean the Chimneys and Wyvern Abbey are supposed to be somewhere in Surrey, Sussex, or even Hampshire.

Seven Dials filming locations

Whether it’s the two estates or Bundle’s other adventures, we have a pretty good idea of where Seven Dials was filmed.

For example, the Wyvern Abbey scenes were filmed at Westonbirt House in Gloucestershire.

If you watched Sex Education, it should seem familiar. It posed as Wallace University, attended by Maeve in the final season.

According to the website, the crew spent eight weeks on site, making use of the Great Hall, library, and reading room for several scenes.

“Production teams selected Westonbirt for its authentic period architecture, sweeping staircases, and film-friendly layout,” it reads.

Bath and Bristol

Aside from the country estates, Seven Dials was mostly filmed between Bath and Bristol. There are some scenes in old-timey London, but they were largely conjured at The Bottle Yard Studios.

However, some spots in Bristol doubled for London, like All Saints Street and Clare Street outside of the Seven Dials Club.

When the characters pay a visit to the Bon Temps restaurant, they were actually inside The Ox on Corn Street.

Bath posed as London for the driving scenes; specifically on Great Pulteney Street, with other scenes filmed around Abbey Green.

As explained by the Bath and North East Somerset Council, filming on this scale hadn’t taken place on Great Pulteney Street since 2003.

Why Bridgerton fans will recognise Badminton House

Badminton House, an estate in South Gloucestershire that’s been standing since the late 17th century, stood in for the Chimneys in Seven Dials.

This marks the fourth time it’s been used in a Netflix production. The Gentlemen was shot there, and notably, both Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte used the house as a filming location.

Specifically, its interior was the set for Simon and Daphne’s house – even though the exteriors were filmed at Castle Howard in York.

The Badminton Estate was used more extensively for Seven Dials. Filming took place over nearly four weeks throughout the estate.

“Scenes were filmed across the house and gardens, carefully dressed to reflect the glamour and atmosphere of the 1920s,” the website says.

Here’s another crazy credit: 28 Days Later was partly filmed on the estate’s grounds. There’s a crossover you didn’t expect.

Seven Dials: Where is Ronda?

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials opens in Ronda, a municipality of Spain located in the province of Málaga.

The series opens with a mysterious figure (no spoilers here, don’t worry) wandering Ronda’s streets in 1920.

All of these scenes were filmed on location, including in the Bullring of the Royal Cavalry of Ronda.

At first, it may seem like the same place from the start of No Time to Die. That was Matera, in Italy – however, both projects involved the same production team.

María de la Paz Fernández, Ronda’s mayor, said: “This international filming by a company that has created products such as the latest 007 film brings a team of around 120 people to Ronda for the shooting, which gives an idea of the magnitude of this production.”
