Shaun Williamson makes a special guest appearance on The Dyers’ Caravan Park today (March 10), bringing his Barrioke event – named after his character Barry from EastEnders – to Priory Hill.

Best known for playing Barry Evans in EastEnders, Shaun can also hold a tune, as those tuning into Danny Dyer’s Sky One series tonight will see.

But not only that, fans of the iconic soap star can also attend his Barrioke nights, and get up on stage with Shaun and belt out a tune!

Barry from EastEnders makes Dyers’ Caravan Park debut

Tonight’s Dyers’ Caravan Park sees Dani and Danny attempt to add some pizzazz to Priory Hill’s entertainment line-up. After a round of disastrous auditions, Danny raids his little black book. And comes up with two acts that he’s certain will go down a storm with residents.

He calls on Martin Kemp to perform a DJ set – however, his rider and reaction to a less-than-capacity crowd leaves Martin looking a little diva-like. Danny also recruits EastEnders star Shaun Williamson – aka Barry. And he brings his touring Barrioke show to the shores of Leysdown, and proves that not only is he a great showman, he’s also a pretty nice guy.

What is Barrioke?

According to Shaun’s website, he has taken “the music scene by storm, bringing Barrioke to thousands of music lovers at venues and festivals across the UK”.

It adds: “Shaun hosts Barrioke with his trademark warm and jovial manner, accompanying and singing with audience and guest participants on stage, creating a riotous, joyous moment that people will never forget. This is the ultimate Insta moment, something people will talk about and want to be part of.”

The events are help in partnership with Singa Karaoke, organisers of the World Karaoke Championships and pioneers of the streamed Karaoke revolution.

What happens on a Barrioke night and can you sing with Barry from EastEnders?

Yes indeed you can!

Shaun hosts the night, and belts out more than a couple of iconic tunes himself, much to the delight of the raucous crowd. Think Livin’ On A Prayer, (Is This The Way To) Amarillo and I Want It That Way.

However, the clue’s in the name – and the night does feature karaoke. As a result, attendees write their name and song choice on a slip in the hope of joining Shaun on stage to perform. “It’s a gig, but they’re the stars of it,” Shaun told The Guardian.

He reckons the appeal of Barrioke lies in “nostalgia, and a want to return to 90s life, where everything just seemed a little less serious, a little more silly”. He added: “More than anything, there’s large groups of middle-aged women across the country letting their hair down, which is great.”

How much is a ticket for Barrioke and where is he performing?

Tickets sell out incredibly fast. The show plays at London’s Bush Hall this weekend (March 13), where tickets cost £24.75 each.

He’ll also be at the touring Sausage & Cider Festival pretty much all summer, and will take in Glasgow, Warwick, Brighton and St Albans, among other places, before he hangs up his microphone in early November.

Shaun is touring the country with Barrioke until November. For more details, see the website here.
