Call the Midwife: Why isn't it on tonight and when is the next episode?
Fans will have to wait for their next visit to Nonnatus House
Call the Midwife fans will suffer some disappointment this week as the BBC One medical drama has been pulled from the schedules, so why isn’t it on tonight?
It’s been a week of turbulence for drama fans, as Silent Witness and Death in Paradise were both affected by the major changes. The popular shows had their usual air date affected as a result of football.
And this week, there’s another pesky change, although – for once – sport isn’t to blame… So why isn’t Call the Midwife on tonight, and when is the next episode?
Here’s everything you need to know.

Why isn’t Call the Midwife on tonight?
Call the Midwife series 15 has been stopped at a crucial time. Fans will have to wait two weeks for the all-important penultimate episode.
Instead of airing at 8pm on Sunday, February 22, 2026, episode 7 has been replaced. BBC One is showing the British Academy Film Awards from 7pm to 9pm.
Alan Cumming hosts the movie awards from the Royal Festival Hall at London’s Southbank Centre. Among the films in the running for awards are Sinners, Hamnet, One Battle After Another, and I Swear.
As stars of the silver screen gather to celebrate the past 12 months’ cinematic achievements, nominations fall into a number of categories, including outstanding British film. Jessie Ware Ware will perform during the in memoriam section, while EJAE will perform Golden from the Netflix hit KPop Demon Hunters alongside Audrey Nuna and Rei.

When is the next episode on?
Call the Midwife series 15 will return on Sunday, March 01, 2026 at 8pm on BBC One. That night, the missing episode 7 will air – the penultimate of the series.
In that episode, viewers will see a group of newly-qualified junior doctors joining Nonnatus House on placement – despite the impending closure notice. These include Timothy, who has begun his obstetrics rotation. He soon notices the contrast between hospital-based clinical medicine and the human care offered by the Nonnatus team.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey encourages Sister Veronica to make a list of everything she wants to do before deciding whether to return to the Order. It turns out to be a challenge that begins to stir her independence…
Also in episode 7, Sister Monica Joan is frustrated at her increasing frailty, and Violet opens the Mullucks’ new bathroom extension for the local press. It’s a victory for the Council’s Bathroom Grant scheme. Rhoda proudly speaks to reporters about her family, including daughter Susan who was born with Thalidomide-related disabilities. However, Rhoda is left to struggle inside with Susan and her cumbersome wheelchair, clutching her side in pain as she bumps it up the steps.
Lastly, the midwives and sisters celebrate Rosalind and Cyril’s engagement with sherry, crisps, and Twiglets.
