Celebrity Traitors: Alan Carr is my winner - even if the odds are on Stephen Fry to triumph on the BBC show
Alan's secret weapon on the show is his famously flappy demeanourThe Celebrity Traitors kicked off tonight and early odds are on Stephen Fry to triumph – but my money is on Alan Carr to win.
TV’s best-loved Chatty Man had me laughing throughout the highly-anticipated launch show, especially when he squealed at finding a gold immunity shield in his grave… only for it to be a dirty rock.
But while the other celebs in the 19-strong line-up were all busy air kissing each other and shaking hands (let’s not even mention Nick Mohammad fan-girling over Celia Imrie by helping her look for her shield before his own), Alan soon showed a different side.
Sitting down with Traitors hostess with the mostess, Claudia Winkleman, Alan told her he wanted to be a Traitor. Even Claudia looked shocked, reminding him: “You will have to stab people in the back.”
Staring her square in the eye and without hesitation, Alan said: “They’d do it to me. They’re showbiz people. I’d do it to them. You know what celebrities are like; they’re two-faced.”

Celebrity Traitors odds
Even before The Celebrity Traitors had aired on BBC One, booking agents were already sharing their odds on the winner. Stephen Fry was leading the way in Casino Bets’ stakes, with odds of 4/1 to deceive and bluff his way to victory.
Sir Stephen is a man of many things; a broadcaster, comedian, writer, actor and brainbox. But is he the champion of The Celebrity Traitors 2025?
At first, it appeared Stephen stood a good chance. He made it clear to social media star, Niko Omilana, that he knows exactly who he is. “You’re famous for barging into places and pretending to be things you aren’t. I have a sticky memory,” Stephen quietly told – if not sinisterly warned – him.
Got his card marked, perhaps? Niko certainly seems to think so. But when speaking to Claudia in private, Stephen immediately backed off from any murderous and sinister game playing. He told her: “I’d like to be a Faithful. I’d rather be on the side of the angels anyway in life, who wouldn’t? I like to think I’ve got a good skill set to be a Faithful.”
Claudia honoured Stephen’s request and didn’t pick him as one of the Traitors. She did, however, tap Alan on the shoulder, along with chat show host Jonathan Ross and singer Cat Burns.

Alan Carr’s secret weapon
When it comes to the odds. Alan is fifth in line to win the show, at 7/1. He sits behind Ted Lasso actor Nick (9/2), Nick’s favourite leading lady, Celia Imrie (5/1) and sports broadcaster Clare Balding (6/1). But I think what people assume will be Alan’s downfall is actually his secret weapon. His flappy nature could take him all the way.
When handed his cloak by Claudia, Alan went off to meet his fellow Traitors. He admitted beforehand: “When I see them, I think I’m either going to scream or cry. My thing was to go under the radar and I think I’ve pole-vaulted over it!”
He also told the cameras he has a “nervous disposition”, adding “this whole game plays on your nerves”. But this is where he could triumph.
The Traitors were told their first murder would be in plain sight. They had to find a “deadly black lily” in the castle, rub their hand on its “poisonous petals” and then touch the person they want killed on the face. The murder would be slow and not immediate.
Given Alan’s famously over-friendly demeanour, Jonathan and Cat picked him to do the face touching. He immediately started to sweat and talk too loudly about the mission while mixing boozy drinks with Cat in the bar. But there was so much camp-ness, laughter, japes and pacing around coming from the Chatty Man that no one suspected a thing.
Alan loudly declared he was off to make a brew instead of a cocktail and strode off to the kitchen. But did rugby star Joe Marler seem suspicious of him when he bowled in? Nope. He was giving Cat – who looked incredibly on edge as she slowly followed behind – the side eye.
In a camera confessional, Cat said she felt Alan was too nervous and feared he wouldn’t be able to carry out the murder. But she needs to check herself first…

‘Trump card’
We are yet to find out whether Alan managed to bump off one of his showbiz pals, thanks to a well-timed and annoying cliffhanger. But given how furiously he was rubbing his hand on the poisonous lily at the end of the first episode, I have no doubt he went through with it.
Let’s not forget what Jonathan said when he saw Alan behind the third cloak. He described him as the Traitors’ “trump card” – and I agree. Will anyone suspect the happy-go-lucky comedian of murder? I don’t think so.
Alan made the first episode for me. I had more fun watching him dig his grave than see Charlotte Church prattle on about being ‘at one with nature’ in her mud-stained, white floaty dress. Long may he prosper at the Round Tables.
I’m right behind you, Alan!
