Celebrity Traitors viewers in stitches as Mark Bonnar finds out identity of the Traitors
The actor was banished from the castle last night…
Mark Bonnar was booted from the castle in a dramatic tie-break twist during Thursday night’s episode of Celebrity Traitors (October 23).
However, viewers were treated to one last iconic moment from him during the companion show The Traitors: Uncloaked.
After discovering the true identities of the Traitors, Mark’s passionate and animated response had both host Ed Gamble and fans in stitches – much like Charlotte Church’s reaction did the previous night!
Mark Bonnar discovers identity of Celebrity Traitors
Mark’s banishment followed a historic twist on Wednesday’s episode, where the roundtable vote resulted in a tie between him and historian David Olusoga.
In an unprecedented move, host Claudia Winkleman introduced the ‘Chest of Chance’, two locked chests, only one of which would save its holder.
The moment was tense. However, it was David who drew the shield, leaving Mark with an empty chest and a one-way ticket out of the castle.
Meanwhile, Mark’s post-elimination appearance on the spin-off show, The Traitors: Uncloaked, proved to be just as entertaining.
Sitting down with host Ed Gamble, he was handed a letter revealing the names of the remaining Traitors. As he opened the letter, his reactions were TV gold.
“Jonathan. [Bleeping]. Ross,” he blurted, eyes wide, shaking his head. “Well played. He is really good at it.”
Then came Cat Burns’ name. Mark gasped out loud, slapped his thigh and leaned back in disbelief. “Man, Cat. She is good. I thought she was 100% Faithful. This is exhausting!”
The biggest shock, however, came with Alan Carr. At first, Mark could only let out a stunned “Oh,” followed by a long pause. “It’s Alan,” he sighed, clearly overwhelmed.
He even launched into an impromptu impression of the comedian, grinning, “‘I’ve got a fear-wee about you!'” Laughing, he admitted he’d had a brief moment of doubt during their last interaction. “You know what, on our way out from the table, I was beside him and I glance at him and he was like [head down] and I never mentioned that again.”
Fans react
Host Ed Gamble struggled to contain his laughter throughout the entire segment, and viewers were quick to echo his amusement.
Clips of Mark’s reaction quickly spread on social media, where fans called it one of the best the show has ever seen.
One person wrote: “Mark Bonnar is absolutely RAGING finding out who the Traitors are. His impression of Alan was impeccable.”
Others called it “the best reaction ever”. One fan joked that the final moment, with a burst of light transitioning over Mark’s stunned expression, looked like his head had just exploded from the reveal. “The way this video ends makes it look like Mark’s head has just exploded like a fission bomb.”
“Absolutely dying,” one viewer added, while another declared: “Mark Bonnar – not a Traitor, but definitely a star!”
Although he left earlier than hoped, Mark took his role as a Faithful seriously, perhaps too seriously. He later admitted his passionate approach might’ve made him an easy target: “I would have played it slightly differently with hindsight; not being quite so involved, not being quite so enthusiastic.”
He added that Claudia Winkleman had warned contestants to stay alert. “I was certainly doing that in observing everyone, not sure I was subtle enough about that which possibly put a massive target on my back!”
