Coronation Street actor Daniel Brocklebank teases mysterious final scene set to air in January
Goodbye Billy Mayhew
Coronation Street‘s Daniel Brocklebank has teased where Billy Mayhew’s final scene will take place.
The actor, who stepped into Weatherfield as the soap’s first-ever gay vicar back in 2014, spoke about his character’s looming exit on Loose Women today (November 25). It’ll air in “January sometime”.
“It was a strange day,” he told Ruth Langsford, Janet Street-Porter, and Mariella Frostrup about his last moments on set. “It felt just like any normal day at work. And then obviously in the back of your head you’re thinking, ‘Oh, this is my last scene. My goodness!'”

Daniel Brocklebank’s Corrie exit as Billy Mayhew
Recounting where he shot Billy’s closing footage, the Loose Women guest shared: “Our assistant producer came out and made a lovely speech. 150 cast and crew all came out onto the street, because I was out on the street for my final scene.”
If The Sun‘s source is to be believed, that means Billy meets his maker out on the iconic cobbles.
They alleged: “Corrie bosses are busy plotting how to kill off Billy, having decided to axe Daniel earlier this year. There aren’t any plans to bring him back onto the soap. So it makes sense to make his exit the most impactful and explosive it can be.
“It’s likely Billy will be a focus point of the Christmas/New Year storylines, with fans expected to be at the edge of their seats in the run-up.”
‘An actor of immeasurable talent and skill’
Corrie producer Kate Brooks previously addressed the beloved cast member’s departure.
“Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit,” she said.
“We’re incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan. He has been fantastic in some of Corrie’s biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul’s MND. An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes – he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles.”

Young Frankenstein: Daniel Brocklebank takes ‘left field’ next job
Daniel revealed to the Loose Women that he dashed from the Corrie set straight over to Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre. That’s where rehearsals for Young Frankenstein the Musical are taking place, in which he plays Dr Frederick Frankenstein.
Surrounded by his weepy soap pals; “I said, ‘Look I’ve got to go I’m sorry!’ Because I’d already started my next job that day! I literally left Corrie at quarter to one on the Tuesday afternoon and by half-past one I was at Hope Mill Theatre.
“I’m taking over from the wonderful Ore Oduba,” Daniel noted. “I feel like I’ve been shot out of a cannon. I’ve not put tap [dancing] shoes on for 30 years! The thing I’m most thrilled about is the fact I’m doing something that’s so left field, outside of Corrie.
“I’ve had a very varied career. I’ve spent years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, I’ve done huge Oscar-winning movies, I’ve done little indie films, I’ve done West End shows. But musical theatre was not a box that I’d ticked.”
‘I think you’ve got to push yourself’
The soon-to-be scientist admitted that reading the script for Young Frankenstein terrified him.
“I thought, ‘Let’s do it’, because I think you’ve got to push yourself,” he shared, acknowledging that Corrie was a “very safe” space creatively.
From Wednesday, December 3 to Saturday, January 3, he’ll perform at Liverpool Playhouse in Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein. The story follows the grandson of Victor Frankenstein who moves to Transylvania. In the musical, the likes of Amelia Adams, Jessica Martin, and Pete Gallagher will join him.
