Deal or No Deal today saw player Jade take on the infamous Banker, however, the mum of three ended up missing out on a massive £10k payday.

Jade’s game started out well (February 6), but once the £100k was opened by someone in the wings, things started to go downhill…

Jade revealed that she was playing with numbers given to her by one of her three children. She also shared that she worked for a children’s cancer charity. And she had support from her mum in the audience.

However, coming into the final rounds, luck didn’t appear to be on Jade’s side, despite viewers at home willing her to win.

Deal or No Deal today – Jade takes on The Banker

With the 50p, £1, £10, £10k and £25k left on the board, Jade was offered £4,985 to sell her box to The Banker.

After much deliberation, and a chat with her mum in the audience, Jade decided to take The Banker up on his offer and dealt.

However, it turned out to be the wrong move…

The Banker ups the offer

Next, she opened the 50p box. Then came the £1 box. The phone rang and The Banker said he’d have offered Jade £9,360.

Host Stephen Mulhern urged her to try and find the big reds. She obliged, taking out the £10k next. However, that left £10 and £25k on the board. The Banker called and said he’d have offered Jade a huge £10,630.

This meant that, although she left the game with £4,985, Jade could’ve had an extra £5,645 winging its way to her bank account if she’d had held her nerve.

After getting over that disappointment, though, it was time for Stephen to reveal what was inside Jade’s box. Tearing off the tape, he opened her box to reveal that, despite not taking home as much as she could, Jade did beat The Banker as the £10 was in her box.

‘The contestant has absolutely messed up’

“I always knew she would deal on something stupid!” said one viewer. “Once again, the contestant has absolutely messed up and dealt too early. Both big reds remaining still there. This show is so wretched sometimes,” said a second. “I thought she was going on for another round. She panicked, plain and simple,” said a third.

However, others were pleased that Jade went home with a nice sum. “Oh Jade…. You could have had a lot more money than what you dealt with. Thank God, you didn’t get totally to the end as that would have ended with £10,” said one.

“Wrong time to deal but fair play on beating The Banker. All the best Jade – fair play to you with your job and bringing up three children,” another added.

Identity of Deal or No Deal banker revealed as Coronation Street star

The long-running mystery of the Deal or No Deal banker has finally been cracked, at least for the original Noel Edmonds version on Channel 4.

For years, fans speculated over the identity of the shadowy figure who dialled up Noel to negotiate nail-biting offers with contestants.

But thanks to Pointless star Richard Osman, we now know the secret: the banker was actually producer Glenn Hugill.

Deal or No Deal Banker's identity revealed

Richard let the information slip during an interview with Metro’s 60 Seconds in 2015.

The author and presenter casually referred to Glenn as "the banker on Deal Or No Deal" while discussing their collaboration on the quiz show Two Tribes.

"It was an idea that Glenn Hugill, the Banker on Deal or No Deal, and I had been thinking about for a long time," Richard said at the time.

For those wondering why Glenn's name might sound familiar, it’s because he also had a stint on Coronation Street back in the 1990s.

The former actor played policeman Alan McKenna, the boyfriend of hairdresser Fiona Middleton. He also served as Deal or No Deal's executive producer.

The producer maintained his anonymity throughout the series' run from 2005 to 2016.

Richard's reveal finally lifted the lid on a closely guarded TV secret. However, the mystery of who The Banker is on ITV’s new Stephen Mulhern-fronted version of Deal or No Deal remains unsolved.

The original Deal or No Deal first aired on Channel 4 in 2005 and ran until 2016.

Stephen Mulhern's reboot

In 2023, Deal or No Deal was revived on ITV with Stephen Mulhern as the new host.

Despite the format's return, the identity of the current Banker remains a closely guarded secret.

Stephen himself has stated that he does not know who the Banker is.

He has mentioned that the Banker's voice is male and that he receives instructions during the show, but beyond that, details are scarce.

"I don’t know who the Banker is. So I wouldn’t be able to recognise who it was. He could walk past me at any point," Stephen admitted.

"Supposedly, he goes into the hotel and listens to the contestants and what they're up to. So when he comes on the phone to me, I’ve got to repeat what he says. He takes no prisoners."
