Emmerdale airs its standalone episode focusing on April Windsor tonight, as the character finally opens up to her father, Marlon Dingle, about the events she has been hiding.

The instalment promises a “staggering twist,” and after watching the ITVX early release, it delivers exactly that – raising new questions as well as answering long-running ones.

April and her ordeal with Ray and Celia in Emmerdale

Recent episodes have shown April becoming increasingly entangled with Ray and Celia. What began as running drugs and accumulating debt has escalated into something much more dangerous.

April has twice been sent to see clients: the first time she ran away, and the second time she tried to drink to build up courage. Still unable to go through with it, she struck the man over the head with a bottle, killing him.

Ray arranged for the body to be removed, while Celia told April she now “owns” her. April was warned she would be working for Celia for a long time and that there was no way out.

The standalone episode

In Tuesday’s special episode (November 4), April visits Marlon. The pair share warm and nostalgic moments together, allowing April a rare chance to behave like the child she is. Their bond is clearly established as she builds up the courage to share the truth.

Eventually, April breaks down and tells Marlon everything that has happened, describing her fear and the pressure she has been under.

This leads to the episode’s major twist – one actor Mark Charnock previously described as something that would “stagger the audience.”

The outcome is being kept tightly under wraps to avoid spoiling the episode. But viewers can expect a dramatic and emotional turning point.

Mark Charnock on what’s next

Mark Charnock has hinted that April’s situation will continue to escalate.

He noted that “things are going to get considerably worse before they get better”, adding that Marlon could act in a dangerously impulsive way if he discovered Ray’s involvement.

“I truly believe that character would sacrifice himself for his child,” he said. “I think he could do something irrational that could cause everlasting damage.”

The episode on Tuesday certainly leaves viewers questioning where this storyline will go next.
