Death of Terry Yorath announced
This morning, the heartbreaking emergency that pulled Gabby off-air was revealed, as she shared a statement, alongside her siblings, Louise and Jordan.
It revealed that her dad, footballing legend Terry Yorath, had died at the age of 75 following a short illness.
Speaking on behalf of the family, his children said: “To most he was a revered footballing hero, but to us he was Dad; a quiet, kind and gentle man. Our hearts are broken but we take comfort knowing that he will be reunited with our brother, Daniel.”
Gabby’s brother Daniel died back in 1992 at the age of just 15. He was playing football with his dad at the time, before he collapsed and died suddenly. His cause of death was later revealed as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – an undiagnosed heart condition.
Terry’s career on the pitch
Born in Cardiff in 1950, Terry was a distinguished and highly respected figure within professional football. He leaves an indelible mark both as a player and as a manager. He frequently captained the Welsh side, earning 59 caps.
Terry is survived by Gabby, Louise and Jordan, and his wife Christine.
