Gemma Owen takes centre stage in Prime Video’s Meet the Owens – but why did she split with Luca Bish and who is she dating now?

Meet the Owens gives a candid look at Michael Owen’s new passion for horse racing after retiring from football.

The cameras also turn the spotlight on Michael’s relationship with his wife Louise and their four children; James, Gemma, Emily and Jessica.

Viewers are most likely to recognise Gemma, 23. She has a big starring role in the new mini-series.

Gemma has set her sights on a TV presenting career in the equestrian world, along with being a jockey, and is seen trying to make it happen.

But rather than wondering if she makes it, fans will definitely be interested in her life away from the cameras. And more specifically, her love life.

Here’s what we know…

Why did Gemma Owen split with Luca Bish?

Gemma found fame in 2022 thanks to ITV2’s Love Island. At the time, the ‘nepo-baby’s’ name was already in the newspapers before the series had even started thanks to her famous dad.

Gemma was rocked early on in the villa thanks to the arrival of her ex-boyfriend, Jacques O’Neill. But she didn’t let it bother her and later coupled up with Luca Bish.

Despite ‘red flag’ worries from fans, Gemma and fishmonger Luca made it to the end. They were crowned runners up, missing out to Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti.

Gemma and Luca continued their relationship on the outside. Luca asked Gemma to be his girlfriend by presenting her with a £6k Cartier bracelet.

But cracks soon appeared. Gemma was spotted at several high profile events without Luca. She also failed to mention him during an interview with glossy magazine, Tatler.

Three months after they had left the villa, Gemma wrote on Instagram: “I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship. It wasn’t an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for both of us right now.

“Many of you have been on this journey with us from the beginning and I want to thank you for your continued support as a new chapter starts.”

Luca did not confirm the split on his social media. He has continued to keep a dignified silence, refusing to spill the gory details. Luca instead wished his ex well and insisted he was moving on with life whenever asked publicly about their break-up.

Who is Gemma Owen’s boyfriend Red Morgan?

Gemma has taken the decision to keep her love life firmly out of the spotlight since her split with Luca Bish. However, she is reportedly in a relationship with a new boyfriend.

Gemma is dating horse rider and showjumper Red Morgan, according to reports. Red’s father is British businessman and billionaire property developer Steve Morgan.

The couple were first spotted together during a holiday in Dubai in April 2025 (scroll through Gemma’s IG post below). Last summer, they made their first public appearance at Wimbledon.

This summer, Gemma and Red are believed to have been on a horse riding safari in South Africa and Botswana. Shortly after returning, Gemma spoke about ‘an ideal partner’ to HELLO! – but she didn’t namecheck Red.

“They don’t necessarily need to be horsey themselves; just having an interest in horses and appreciating what they bring to my life would be important,” she said. “The safari has been on my bucket list for ages, and to be able to do it on horseback was so special.”

Gemma’s TV presenting and jockey career

Viewers of Meet the Owens will follow Gemma as she continues to forge her equestrian career. Michael now owns the prestigious Manor House Stables in Cheshire. It is a thoroughbred horse racing and training facility.

Gemma, having ridden since childhood, is very hands on at the stables. She is also seen breaking into TV presenting at equestrian events, with the family later gathering round to watch her on screen.

But Michael has bigger visions for her. The former England and Manchester United player is encouraging Gemma to become a professional jockey. And despite her dressage experience, riding as a jockey is completely different.

Gemma is seen almost falling from one race horse during series. She then tries out Sir Alex Ferguson’s very own race horse.

Her mentor is retired professional jockey Franny Norton. Gemma soon has the wind put up her when Franny reels off all the horrific injuries he received during his career…
