Throughout the winter, the world of golf takes a brief pause, and it’s agonising for anyone who loves watching the classic sport.
Thankfully, some of the top golfers were back in action last weekend for the Sony Open in Hawaii. Jordan Spieth took centre stage there, with his 3-iron obsession and shaky legs making headlines.
However, this week, we’re back on mainland US soil for The American Express. Even more big names are getting involved, and we’ve got all the details on the exciting event right here.

What time is the golf on today?
Coverage of The American Express begins at 4:30pm today (January 22), UK time.
Remember, this is a four-day event. Round two takes place on Friday before the field is cut heading into the weekend. The final, decisive round will be played on Sunday, January 25.
How to watch The American Express
Golf fans can watch The American Express on Sky Sports Golf or on the SkyGo app. You’ll need to be a Sky Sports subscriber to catch all the action from La Quinta Country Club in California.
On Thursday, January 22, and Friday, January 23, coverage begins at 4:30pm. Tune in at the same time on Saturday and Sunday for rounds three and four.

A whole host of top players are signed up for The American Express this year. Europe’s Ryder Cup-winning team will be out in force, including the likes of Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Ludvig Aberg, and last year’s winner at this tournament, Sepp Straka.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on world number one, Scottie Scheffler. This is his first event of the season, but ironically, this is one of the few tournaments he has not won yet.
Other notable players include Harris English, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Russell Henley, and Jason Day.

For round one of The American Express 2026, you’ll want to keep an eye on the following tee times:

Please note, some of these golfers will begin on hole 1 while others will begin on hole 10 before looping back round. We can’t guarantee which players Sky Sports will highlight each day, but you can expect at least some of the above to get top billing on the opening day.
What is the purse for this event?
There is a total of $9.2 million up for grabs this week at The American Express 2026. That’s equivalent to around £6.8 milliom, if you’re curious.
The winner of the event will get $1.65 million while the runner-up will walk away with just over $1 million. There’s a significant drop from there, with third place nabbing $634,800, fourth place getting $450,800, and fifth place claiming $377,200.
For simply finishing 10th, a golfer will bag just over a quarter of a million dollars. Even those in last place after the field is cut will take home a fairly respectable $19,780. Not bad for finishing in 65th place!
